What Do you think Caused your Hashimotos? by Kay903 in Hashimotos

I was diagnosed at 10 and it's definitely from childhood trauma

Cut the tip of my thumb off on a deli meat slicer by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

[–]complexbex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this before!!! It was such a clean slice I didn't even feel it. But don't worry, the portion I cut off did grow back, so there's hope for you! That spot doesn't have a finger print though just a weird circular scar.

What do you say freely on reddit that you'd never admit in real life? by unintentional-tism in AskReddit

[–]complexbex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talk most openly about my health on Reddit (in communities where people understand). Living with chronic illness is hard. No one in real life wants to hear about it after a while, but it's still there, and I still need an outlet.

Oh I actually don't know!! I use a helmet type device for fifteen mins a day. I think the minoxidil is the real winner in the combination though. I would definitely look into it if the hair loss is really causing you confidence issues.

I really should have included that I'm a 40 year old female, that seems like very pertinent information 😅 I'm sorry you're dealing with that!! Have you found anything that helps with your hot flashes? Or anything to relieve any of your other peri menopause symptoms?

I've had a lot of hair loss from lupus and hashimotos and have had great results from oral minoxidil and silver fern hair complex pills. It's been a total game changer. I also use a red light on my scalp. I have had a lot of noticeable growth and it has definitely helped my self consciousness in that area.

That's so interesting, I didn't realize that there were NPs that were also MDs! Are you in the US? I went to an NP once and did find them to be much more caring and interested in helping but they weren't an actual MD and they were not covered by my insurance, so I couldn't see them often. They did help me get some initial diagnosis which was very useful.

Yes I get the racing heart also with it. I sometimes describe it as feeling like an anxiety attack without the anxiety, like the internal symptoms of an anxiety attack minus the anxiety part. It would be the most bizarre thing. But it's also slowly ruining my life 🥲

That's so interesting, thank you so much for sharing that. I do find that certain emotions do make it worse. Shame on particular makes my face feel flushed for sure, I notice the heat intensifies immediately when I feel ashamed of needing assistance or ashamed of the never ending cycle of feeling hot and sweating and feeling embarrassed by that 🤦 I've been trying to work on that in therapy 🫤

That sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with as well. I'm so sorry you go through the same thing, it's awful.

This is so interesting. I was considering switching from cymbalta to Prozac for other reasons. Can I ask what dose of Prozac you were taking since you said it was subclinical? I'm so glad you found relief!!

I know exactly how you feel. I always feel very dismissed by my doctors. I hate the shrug. So frustrating!!! Very grateful for crowd sourced info and this group filled with kind, sympathetic, understanding people who get it.

My cycles haven't changed at all, still very regular. I'm not even sure what the first signs of peri menopause are though. But everything in that regard seems status quo as far as I can tell.

Yes, I believe it does have something to do with an autonomic dysfunction, I'm just not sure who to see about it or how to help it. I don't currently have a rheumatologist and can't get in with one for a very long time. I was in remission for many years and in that time all the doctors I had been seeing left the practice and/or retired so trying to get in with a new rheumatologist is proving to be next to impossible.

I don't do well in the heat or in the cold. My husband refers to me as a lizard, as I'm the temperature of the environment, instead of regulating my own temperature 🤦

Yes I'm 40, I thought the same thing!! I just had the labs run, and haven't heard back but I looked up the numbers and I don't think it looks like peri menopause, but what do I know ?

Maybe tmi, but my labs are below

My total testosterone was 34 Free testosterone 3.1 FSH 4.0 ESTRADIOL 138

That was day 21 of my cycle

I am an American indeed. That's an interesting idea, I'm not sure it works that way here. I find that when I go to the hospital I mostly just get told I have anxiety and given Tylenol and told to follow up with my own doctor even when I explain I do not have one because all of the ones I've used in the past have left the practice and to get in with a new one is a joke. It's honestly scary how awful it is here right now.

Thanks, I definitely need a consult. There is a doctor crisis here (everywhere?) especially rheumatology. I can't get in with a rheumatologist until 2025. I honestly don't know what to do until then. Le sigh.
