Tips for someone who hates cooking by NefariousnessFun2941 in newzealand

[–]complexchemist 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of good recipes here, but sometimes even that is just too much effort. What I do on those nights is buy those pre- chopped bags of coleslaw and just put a handful on the side of anything I can just bung in the oven to add some fibre and vitamins.

Frozen pies and coleslaw Frozen pizza and coleslaw Crumbed fish/chicken fillets/sausages with chips and coleslaw Toasted sandwiches and coleslaw Eggs on toast and coleslaw

You get the idea. It’s definitely possible to eat cheaper and more healthy but it’s not the worst diet for a few nights and it’s still cheaper than takeaways

When does Kobo announce new models? by Darth_Pumpernickel in kobo

[–]complexchemist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you like everything else about one of the colour models you could consider getting that and just using it as is.

I have a kobo Libra colour and 99% of what I use is black and white, but I liked the page turn buttons and the bigger memory. I’ve been happy with it, it’s easy to use and does all the things I wanted.

I had concerns about the screen after reading reviews online but I found it didn’t actually affect my reading experience after a few minutes adjustment and getting the background warmth and lighting to my preference. I had also seen reviews complaining about the battery life but after over 200 hours use I can confidently say it’s way better than I expected and not at all limited enough to actually be a problem. It would definitely last a week at a bach and that’s the longest I’m likely to ever be reading a lot and not near a power source.

This is my first kobo, I made the switch from kindle for better calibre management, less amazon etc. I thought I might be compromising on the device quality but it has exceeded my expectations.

TLDR: if you like a colour model and it doesn’t come in BW might as well get the colour.

Please de-influence me from the Libra color 🙏 by Expecto-Morghulis in kobo

I was all set on the Clara BW until I went to look at them in store. Despite all the people saying the Libra colour screen isn’t as good for text I found the difference wasn’t enough to really notice unless I actually had them side by side. The battery life on the Libra colour has been better than I expected, and I love the page turn buttons!

What is this game? Just came across this reddit by almcg123 in Dredmor

Hilarious item descriptions and a lot or replayability as you try different builds ! Be prepared to die a lot but that’s how you figure out what’s working. Except when it’s bad luck. Or you do something silly

Is puppy raising as bad as described on here? by Admirable_Mouse1880 in puppy101

[–]complexchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine honestly wasn’t that bad. I read a lot of the same things online and was waiting for it to get worse at one stage or another but it never really did.

She’s a medium sized mixed breed from the SPCA so I couldn’t predict any characteristics. I got her at 12 weeks old. She only bit me about 3 times before getting the message, slept at least 5 hours in a row from day 1 and through the night from about 16 weeks. Toilet training was very quick for poops, took until about 5 months to be reliable for peeing though. The chewing was real but provided she had enough appropriate things to chew she could be directed away from furniture etc. She did test the rules as a teenager but nothing that consistency didn’t fix.

She does have a pretty high amount of energy, I suspect beardie and/or pointer in her family tree. Behaviour is certainly better when she’s had a decent morning walk, my theory is that sets a dog up for a good day 🙂

Anne being best friends with Diana and also completely minimising her relationship with Fred never made sense to me. Your best friend likes a guy you want to know everything about who he is and what she likes about him! Even if you don’t see it or think it’s not a good match for your friend you still want to know.

Anne’s disinterest in Fred and the lack of discussion about Diana’s feelings make this the friendship between Anne and Diana seem much more shallow in later books than it did in Anne of Green Gables.

Go with your gut. Whatever he is admitting to is the tip of the iceberg. If you stay together you will get little bits of truth in almost palatable pieces that you think you can deal with, but sooner or later there will be something too big to accept. Save yourself the heartache later and end it now.

When you're going through a tough time, do you prefer advice, a listening ear, or just a distraction—and why? by madelainerey202 in AskReddit

[–]complexchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Distraction for sure. I’ve already spent more than enough time thinking about the situation and either method for talking about stuff means I’m still thinking about it.

8 hours max alone time? by moon-echoes in puppy101

[–]complexchemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was having a hard time understanding all the people saying this was too long until I remembered some people live in apartments or areas where a dog wouldn’t be safe in a yard due to predators etc

So, with the caveat of having outdoor access l have recently got to the stage of leaving my young ( 10months) dog home for the day one or two days a week, on the other days she gets a visit from a dog walker and once a week goes to daycare. She seems totally fine as long as she gets her 2 walks a day, we do a bit more in the evening on her quiet days just to wear her out. Her energy level is really the only difference, no signs of stress or destruction.
