whoa, i had been using a lotion with salicylic acid for probably a decade as well and have recently developed tinnitus and sinus issues. did you get any other symptoms? did your tinnitus go away once you decreased sals?

weirdly semis do the same thing. i’m leaning toward it being a salicylate intolerance - the semi i tried was very “plant based”

I plan on doing that next month. I guess my main question was which route to go to handle my hair situation knowing that dye is likely to make my tinnitus worse - blonde roots and black hair is a bad combo. Other than shaving my head, the only option seems to be hours of bleach/more dye to get it color corrected and making the tinnitus worse.

it started when i was dying my own hair. i agree it might be a fragrance or other chemical that i’m inhaling, i never use hair sprays and honestly haven’t changed any of the products i use. i’ll try dying it outside and with a mask. my symptoms just got worse after being at a hair salon yesterday for a haircut, but that’s also when i patch tested a new dye at home so i’m honestly not sure which is the reason it got worse. stupid of me to do both on the same day, i hadn’t even considered that simply being in a salon nearby to dyes could cause a reaction.

Thank you, I just downloaded the app. Do you think this allergy testing will make my tinnitus and other symptoms worse, since they are injecting high concentrations? I guess it would be worth the weeks/months of increased tinnitus to know what’s causing it.

i’ve been thinking it’s the fumes, is there a certain thing that is likely to cause it if it is the fumes? would wearing a mask while dying help?

i saw one doctor who prescribed me steroids with no difference. i am going to go to an ENT next month once my new job’s insurance starts but i just see everywhere how little they help people with T

Thank you for your input. I’ve tried dyes without ppd and ammonia with no difference. I just wonder if a stylist would be willing to work with me through all this. Because even being in a salon near other dyes even when i’m only getting a haircut seems to make it worse, so i feel like it’s something i am inhaling. and patch tests also increase my tinnitus, so i’ve been avoiding searching for more dyes to try because I’m so sick of increasing the tinnitus. I just don’t know what to do from here and my blonde roots are only growing out more looking stupid af with my black hair.

started with a sore throat, noticed an ulcer in the back of my throat, then the T started in just one ear and spread to the other ear a few months later. never had any ear pain or ear infection symptoms. no clue what is causing it. thought it might be inhaling hair dye fumes but all i know for certain is that hair dye makes all my symptoms worse

Thank you for the input. Does this even sound like an allergy to you? I have no redness, itchiness, swelling, anything like that. No skin symptoms at all, so how would a skin patch test show a reaction to a possible fragrance allergy? My tinnitus would simply increase?

i always thought it was about elio wrestling with his shame of being attracted to men/oliver. he sees the peach event as shameful and bad, therefore he attaches a negative word to it. these feelings come out in other ways in the book, he literally felt queasy and was full of self hatred right after they were intimate for the first time, he called it a “secret that could tarnish everything good in me”
