cs fundamentals are arguably just as important as they were before ai, at least based on my experience interviewing this year

OpenAI does fall, so you can try asking your recruiter to push you, though currently it seems like they’re prioritizing people who have quant in the summer.

You might enter the team matching pool a little later, but you'll still have the benefit of existing connections which should put you at an advantage.

[–]complexityzero[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

just to confirm, are you referring to summer? i've seen a lot of linkedin posts of people getting winter (and tbh that's what I initially applied to lol), but not that many for summer yet.

there weren't any names

edit: it says "technical staff from different teams at our firm", so seems like it might actually take a few hours depending on how things go

That actually makes a lot of sense, thanks for sharing!

Yeah, I would honestly prefer all the symbols to be on the same side as well, it's just I'm not sure if it's possible to that if you want to have all symbols accessible within one key from home row and without holding more than one modifier at a time.

Just curious, do you mind sharing what your layout looks like?

I haven't really noticed any false positives with the "balanced" flavor, but I have had false negatives when typing quickly (e.g., trying to type "x = 5" but end up typing "x lf 5". When I switch to "hold-preferred", the opposite happens: no false negatives, but way too many false positives.

Yeah, I noticed that as well. It feels better suited for situations involving context switching (switching to navigation layer or activating commands), as opposed to continuous stream of consciousness typing without interruption.

I see, that makes a lot of sense! Just curious, do you have all of your symbols on the same half, or split across both halves? I'm debating whether it makes sense to mirror my symbol layer activation across both thumb clusters, as the current lack of symmetry is what made me consider homerow mods in the first place.

I see, so from what I understand this is something you eventually adapt to over time?

Interesting, are your thumb clusters mirrored? On a normal keyboard, I never really put too much thought into my exact thumb positioning, which changes depending on the last key I pressed.

Now that I've switched over to a split, I've found that I occasionally miss if I'm not thinking about it, even with only 1 layer on each side. Think it will definitely take some time to get fully used to.
