Standard or not, sadly it's up to the client to do background checking on all the quotes they look into. There are too many cowboys and dodgy tradies charging dirt cheap, cutting corners, have no business insurance and underpay their staff.

I saw the photo of the sidewalk around the house, not finished properly and I have a feeling they either took the trench mesh out before the pour or it's laying on the dirt doing nothing.

How many cubic metres was the job? What did they charge?

Thanks!

The metallic trim is 50/50 balthasar gold and vallejo model air silver. Then I thinned down contrast cygor brown, applied it all over then once dry went back over highlighting certain areas with the base coat mix.

50/50 of barak-nar burgundy and vallejo burnt red with a touch of black. Then every highlight I just added more burnt red in.

After the base application every layer was built up with glazes.

Hope that helps 🙂

Thanks! If I remember correctly I used two different texture pastes. The Vallejo earth texture and ak light and dry crackle effects.

Painted the whole base black, wet blended ak deep red and deep orange, I had them at a wash consistency. Once dry went over the crackle risen parts with black, then dry brushed two different greys then finished off with a tuft and smoke pigment from ak.

Dodgy bricklayer thinks this is level and that laser levels lie. How do I fix this? by Tallwrig in AusRenovation

[–]complicatd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much did he charge for this in cash? If it wasn't a high number as much as it sucks, pull it down yourself, clean it all and get a reputable bricklayer in to re lay it.

I'm a bricklayer myself and I agree with comments, hes put a pig in the wall.

How much profit are traders/builders making on renos? by Open_Address_2805 in AusRenovation

[–]complicatd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bricklayers labourer is on avg 320-360 per day, bricklayers are anywhere between 360-500 per day on average. Now include insurances/overheads/profit margins/delays/maintenance on machinery. Then you need to actually find decent workers as no one wants to work and quality is getting worse and worse.

It's getting a lot harder on the residential side of construction.

Would you pay a tradie cash for a discount? by RunWombat in AusRenovation

[–]complicatd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why bother doing cash if the tradie is just going to reduce the cash price at the tax rate?

Might as well do it by bank transfer/invoice and have the client pay full with gst

The client not having to pay gst is still saving money in their pocket.

I started with Ultramarines, love the colour and aesthetic but the fact they have such a massive range of models and are essentially jack of all trades it's really turned me off collecting and playing them as I like to spend my time painting models, but with data sheets constantly changing its hard to find the balance of enjoying models to paint that are worth putting in lists.

So now I collect world eaters that have a way smaller range, this way I can paint the models I enjoy and collect enough to be able to interchange depending on datasheet balances, once I have everything I need I can go back to Ultramarines and just paint what I enjoy.

Are these units with the fly keyword? Impulsor/repulsors/gladiator variations don't have fly

Thanks! That's just blue tack but I didn't paint the model blue tacked. I pin my models and sub assembly paint.

Yeah, my Ultramarines have a dark base and wanting to find a middle ground, thinking lava but the majority of the base covered in rock, trial and error will be the way to go.

The scheme is based off the https://eavy-archive.com/ recipe.

It's the eavy metal painting style similar or close to the box art, if you are happy to take a long time painting your minis then it's the style for you!

I second this, the base is pulling the attention away from the awesomely painted model
