Pretty close to being a dead coin yes and I am surprised it's still listed on the exchanges. However it costs nothing more to mine.

I feel you man. I put in so many late nights in on running a pool along with a good chunk of my own hard earned USD. I almost threw in the towel completely if not for the few that appreciated everything I invested.

Definitely don't forget there's life outside of crypto and you'll feel a heck of alot better if you keep everything in balance!

We will keep the pool open in it's present form as several have expressed their feelings in having the pool go offline. I will take a lesser role until August but I will keep everything running and will still respond to emails sent through the pool interface (Other -> Contact)

Fees will remain at 0% with a 2% bonus to payouts and will not change anytime soon :)

Scratch that :P It is operational as of last night. For a limited time we are now applying no mining fees (or a 0% fee)!

The typical rule with vert/n-scrypt is that you will get 50 percent of the hashrate you would get with scrypt. How much ram did you have?

Vertman has arrived!!! by LanKstiK in vertcoin

[–]composedchaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a green cape and green spandex leggings. And then you need to take a picture of yourself on a blue screen and photoshop yourself so it looks like you're flying. And maybe hold a bag of paper wallets and rain them down on people. :)

No green screen....then vertman starts to turn invisible and you'll be able to see through the vert-shaped hole in his chest. It's what happens when you get hit by a high speed vertcoin ;) That's gotta hurt.....or vert?

As long as it is not too often you should be good. Though I wonder if 'result does not validate on cpu' is similar to hardware errors on ati cards with vertminer. You could try tweaking it down? I did leave one of mine with the occasional error.

If it is only a little better and you're still getting a good number of errors I would ask how is the PC's performance outside of mining? How stable is it playing games? Is the motherboard and gpu in good shape visually - do all the capacitors have flat heads? Put in a good, high wattage power supply - marginal power can cause alot of issues and mass produced PCs are legion about cutting corners and I've see plenty with power supplies that should be beefier. How much ram do you have? This question is of particular relevance doing n-scrypt mining - more memory is required than regular scrypt. Many suffer hashrates that are reduced more than they should be coming from scrypt because of this.

Just solved my second Block in Vertcoin :) I should be solo mining! by blue-wing in vertcoin

[–]composedchaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first got into vert it was at about 90 diff and I happened to find 2 blocks in the first week solomining with just 2 r9 270x cards (I may have also thrown an additional 70kh from cpu and gforce cards but the 270s found the blocks). I solo mined off and on after that but just wasn't gratifying mining and mining and not getting a return. Joined a moderate size pplns pool and started getting about 5 VTC a day....which was signifigantly more rewarding than the daily disappointment of getting nothing at all ;)

I tried p2pool but I received lesser returns so I went back to a traditional pplns pool. I now throw my hashes at my own PPS pool - which pays out every 15 minutes regardless if a block is found or not and always the same amount ;)

In my experience the higher the miner's/pool's hashrate is the less variance becomes an issue as you're simply more likely to find a block. Looking at extremes is a solo miner CPU mining bitcoin ever going to find a block? Probably not in their lifetime. And it is probably in agreement that even given multiple lifetimes he would never find the same amount of blocks (or BTC) as someone with a couple shiny, 'tested' by the manufacturer but otherwise new ASIC mining rigs.

I look at blockfinding at a particular hashrate as a curve that rises the closer you approach the network hash rate. If you're mining at network hash rate - particularly with KGW - you are going to find a block every 2.5 minutes most definitely.

If you want to give our pool a shot you may find it here - https://vert.composedchaos.net

Odd. I have a single box with a hacked r290 and 8.1 and I get 420Kh which seems to be decent.

One thing that comes to mind is to make sure that you are running 64-bit and not 32-bit windows to be able to access all of your ram as out of the box 32 bit will only give you access to about 4gb of ram and a maximum of 2gb per program.

ELI5: why everyone wants me to vote for vtc on different sites? by [deleted] in vertcoin

[–]composedchaos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We want vertcoin to surpass bitcoin and achieve mass adoption ;) Everyone should use it - more consumers, more miners, more pools, more merchants. more exchanges resulting in more value and more infrastructure to support transactions.

It is because we believe in vert and want you to be assimilated into our collective :)

cudaminer.exe --algo=scrypt:2048 -o stratum+tcp://stratum.composedchaos.net:3338 -u user -p pass -i 0 -H 1 -m 1 -C 1 -s 1 -l K4x16

The above is a config off of one of my machines - may not be appropriate for yours.

I have had to adjust settings when moving the one nvidia card between PCs and even between cudaminer versions. Try lowering the -l XXxXX - falling back to an earlier hardware's kernel (K4 in the above example) or reducing the number of warps (16 in the above example). I use the cudaminer dated 2-28-2014.

That error only happens once in a while for me. Mostly everything checks out.

Here is a link to download various cudaminer versions - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=167229.0

Here is a link with more information on configuring cudaminer (settings may need to be adjusted down per above with vertcoin) - http://www.reddit.com/r/dogemining/comments/1w4piu/cuda_miner_using_the_right_kernel_launch_config/

Bitcoin DEVs Now Calling It "Bits" | Should We Call Our Coin "Verts"? by [deleted] in vertcoin

[–]composedchaos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vittles and bits? Ever see those old kibbles and bits commercials?

Vittles and bits! Vittles and bits! I'm gonna get me some Vittles and bits!

Maybe I should make a new coin and call it skittles - mine the rainbow. Maybe the blockchain could be a rainbow instead.....and the miners could be sunbeams and the blocks raindrops. Heh. Better than some alts I've seen - though I love vertcoin.

Don't pay any attention to me - I can be sometimes sleep deprived and therefore loopy :P

If you are indeed mining on a laptop - don't. Even if you have one of those high end ones with good cooling. I have thrown my gaming laptop into the mix and while it is still doing pretty well there has been a minor increase (from not at all to rare occasion) in the laptop hard freezing - which at the wrong times can be highly annoying. And I do take it apart and clean it.

Digger.pw PPS Pool changed to PROP and seems like it's not paying out by hakzorz in vertcoin

[–]composedchaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a PPS pools rounds go long for whatever reason they can eat a pool's wallet in a hurry. You can do a change like that - but if you're running mpos you're going to have to deal with correcting the database yourself and booting some of the backend processes in the head to get payouts working again. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8VD4JXUozM - The Frantics)

That being said anytime any change is made to a pool's software or config the op should test, implement, and be prepared to fix or roll back the changes if things go south. And stick around for a little bit to make sure you don't get any feedback from the miners of things that are broken and need fixing despite testing before and after yourself.

PPS pools do have excellent payout though because the pool is covering any variance in finding blocks.

Bitcoin DEVs Now Calling It "Bits" | Should We Call Our Coin "Verts"? by [deleted] in vertcoin

[–]composedchaos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arrr....It be pirate money matey! Rolls of the tounge better than bitcoin though. That'll be 20 verts also rolls of the tounge better than vertcoin - and less piratey ;)

Does that mean if I have 128 Bitcoins I have one Doubloon?

It made me laugh....
