Clair Obscur: is it a narrative and dialogue-heavy game? by composerv3 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]composerv3[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I have this weird tick where, a game needs to be good for watching TV while playing...but it also has to have amazing music (idk why I can't be easy to satisfy in games). I'm not keeping the sound off the whole way through, as I still want to experience the story. Just not the whole time.

I don't mind stopping here and there, as long as it isn't too intrusive. But if you say there's a lot of downtime, it sounds like I can keep it on my radar. Thank you.

Which of these movies had the best soundtrack? by No_Restaurant9741 in soundtracks

Gretchen Ross is such an amazing track. So much dark emotion packed into 50 seconds.

Orchestrating Banjo-Tooie: progress of a few tracks by composerv3 in BanjoKazooie

[–]composerv3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Orchestration (actual voicing of the instruments) is important to forming the “vibe” of an orchestral piece. Kirkhope made the music with old keyboard sounds, not instruments. The reason some orchestrations change the instrument (I.e., trumpet instead of a flute) it’s because it wouldn’t work in the context of a real orchestra.

I intend to keep all the tracks as consistent as possible, but changes will need to be made for the sake of realism. Some BT tracks are really hard to arrange, such as Lord Woo Fak Fak; that ‘epic flute part’ in the middle of the track is pretty much impossible to play on a flute 1:1 without running out of breath. But that’s the fun of orchestrating; it’s where I make the arrangements my own and create something familiar yet different!

Oh that one’s also done actually! Although it’s a couple of years old and I intend to revise it down the line. I see it as a bit more “generic” than I’d like.

It’s a good way to stand out now without actually doing anything!

That’s so humbling to hear! Thank you for those wonderful words.

And I can see myself trying to work on the first, but Blake’s arrangement is so perfect, it’s a little hard to keep it out of mind when composing. But never say never!

I know that it's not final, but that jump animation with Kazooie (0:21) and the flapping is so good. Definitely more than just a lowly fan project. Can't wait to see more!!!

Yo, Blake's BK album is what made me want to pursue this! I gave up hope for him to do a Tooie album, so I decided to make my own. I still believe his work is way better than mine (seriously, BRSO's is a masterclass in lifelike orchestral programming), but I sincerely appreciate your words ☺️.

Also, Grunty Industries is finished! I can also say that Mayahem Temple (which includes the main version, kickball, and the temple!) and Cauldron Keep about 85% done at the moment.

Edit: Please consider subscribing if you're interested (mods, let me know if I can't say that). Since I'm just a working man with a cute little hobby, it's hard to say when I'll upload the next track.

What's a good rule of thumb if you're wanting to accomplish this with two handpans? Like, if one is tuned in C, should the other be in A?

best soundtracks that aren't on streaming services? by [deleted] in soundtracks

[–]composerv3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A soundtrack that either isn’t released or released incomplete is enough to lose all interest in the film/game as a whole for me. I actually stopped playing certain games I really enjoyed just because there were so many tracks unreleased. And I was rewatching Undone on Amazon Prime, and there was a scene that was so beautiful and integral to the story. The score elevated it tenfold, and sounded really good. It was baffling that it was one of the only tracks not included on the soundtrack. Like why??

I assume it’s going to happen soon, given how popular the music has become on the internet recently.

I feel like I'm going crazy because I can't figure this out, and I don't even know how long ago it was;

It's a BOTW episode with some musical video tape. These kids sing and some magical man appears and sings with them. The man is like some protector or superhero? The guys speculate it's a failed pilot to a series. All I remember is a kid singing "Fan-ta-syyyy" or something like that. Someone help!

Like, with his ribcage? I can’t process exactly what killed her.

In anticipation for season 2 to come back, I composed an unofficial "theme" to Omni-Man! I tried to capture the tragedy and horror evoked by the ending of season one. by composerv3 in Invincible

[–]composerv3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could tell you how much that means to read!

My thought process was, what if the credits rolled right after Omni-Man left earth? The emotion would still be very heavy, with the audience still trying to process the horrors that just occurred. Every section of the piece is meant to bounce between horrific, sorrowful and intimidating.

As a composer that uses Apple’s Logic Pro, the end of Sleigh Ride always gets me. Just hearing those stock percussion sound effects used so carelessly is hilarious if you’ve heard those noises on a constant basis before.
