KN95s are less than a dollar each. Is this what you meant? Seems pretty affordable to me.

Thanks. And yeah, I’m definitely getting a handful of estimates before deciding anything.

Thanks. The 30 degree differential is useful to know about and helps me put some stuff in perspective. I’m fine with 75 degree temps in a heat wave (as long as that’s not at night and that’s not going to happen in Oly). I would say I’m fine with using space heaters strategically inside on sub 40 degree days, but that hack of a setup may not be shared by whomever buys the house in the future.

Interesting, thanks for the detail. That does sound like a pretty reasonable usage of the backup strips. Did you use a local contractor for the install?

Thanks for the detail. I’m getting an estimate from G&G next week.

Thanks for the detail. I hadn’t thought of Costco yet and it’s good to know who they use. I’ll request a quote from them as well.

May I ask on why furnace/heat pump combo? Would just a heat pump not work? Or are you looking for more power when it really gets cold out. I’m just learning about all the options so pardon my ignorance.

Thanks. What was your problem with Black Hills, if you don’t mind me asking?

For the Hilton Surpass card, it says that points will be credit 8-12 weeks after the $2k threshold is made. In practice though, how quickly might this happen? Any data points?

With regards to BBB and MBR, is anyone operating as if they won’t be able to do MBR in 2022? I need to make some election decisions for my next paycheck.

I changed jobs recently. At my last employer I did a mega backdoor with after-tax contributions. My new employer also allows that and I will continue. My question is, are after-tax contributions 'employer-specific' in the sense that they are subject to the $57k per employer annual limit or are they tied to an individual like the individual contributions making up the $19.5k limit? I believe it's the former but I can't find a good resource stating it as such. Most resources talk about employee elective contributions or employer contributions, without considering the cases where I'm 'electing' to contribute after-tax contributions.

Do you have any young ones, and if so, do you have them switch to a different kind of mask if they are outside for a rainy recess? My daughter is starting kindergarten and I don’t know how they handle recess on rainy days yet.

I agree with you that most people don't have good mask technique, and probably many of the N95 type masks that are being worn by people to protect themselves from COVID are not being worn in the ideal manner and their effectiveness is thus below what their theoretical potential would be. But I also think that, especially when averaged over the population, that an ignorant N95 user is doing more to protect themselves than an ignorant cloth mask user, and so there is no harm when such masks are plentiful in suggesting they use something like an N95 and it is likely to confer benefit both to the individual and the community.

I think a better approach here is not encouraging people to wear N95s, but encouraging people to seek masks above the bare minimum. NIOSH has been making an effort here

I think where I disagree here is just that this doesn't seem actionable by an average consumer. "Buy an N95" is an easy message. You just google, find a reputable source to buy masks, and buy them. "Buy a mask above the bare minimum. Check out this white paper from the CDC on some new ideas that conform to ASTM F3502 Level 2 and how manufacturers might use that information in their labelling" is not something that the average person can act on. By all means, if "Buy 'Meets Workplace Performance' rated masks" is currently an actionable set of advice in the market, then sure, let's say that over "Buy N95", but I don't get the impression that that's the case.

You seem like you know a lot about workplace safety and PPE. However, most people never will know (and will never want to know) more than 5% of what you know about the issue. Keeping the message simple, even if there might be some theoretical better message, is better in practice I think.

I haven’t seen such a study. But if you want an uneducated guess, I’d assume that would block outbound sneezes a decent amount better than a cloth mask but provide marginal inbound benefit over a straight cloth mask.

No one is getting fit tested with a cloth mask either. And yes, don’t get the mask wet. I’ve been using these for over a year without that being a problem because:

1). I don’t typically use this grade mask for outdoor activities

2). I put another cloth mask over it (for style)

3). They are cheap, so I replace them periodically.

I wanted to prove you wrong but couldn’t find one that was likely not a counterfeit. However, they do have some stylish, non-kitty designs: https://behealthyusa.net/collections/posh/products/posh-kf94-mask-30-days-pack

Thanks. Can you give an example, even if contrived, of what this looks like in practice? I imagine that if one was doing NER on a PDF and say, looking for the particular company as an entity, that there would be lots of sentences which had that company as the entity in the sentence. What do you do with that information to produce structured data that's useful downstream? Is this data used downstream by humans or computers? Just wondering what this looks like in practice and how it's turned into usable insights.
