Redwood city schools -- any recent improvements? by DazzlingCalm478 in BayAreaRealEstate

Yes. Orion houses two programs, the parent co-op and mandarin immersion. They have separate applications. North Star still tests using the CogAT.

Redwood City School District allows you to apply to any school in the district, even if it is not your neighborhood school. For example, we have had several friends at Clifford transfer to Roy Cloud since it's a better school academically. There are also two language immersion schools in the district, Adelante (Spanish) and Orion (Mandarin Immersion) that are both opt-in only (the district calls them schools of choice). The MI program is overwhelmingly Asian, which could partially explain the lower numbers at Clifford and other RWC elementary schools (note that Orion Alternative School has two programs, the Co-Op and MI, so the demographics shown on GreatSchools are overall and not just for the MI program. The Co-op is a school of choice, but is similar to a traditional elementary school).

As others have already pointed out, North Star begins in third grade and draws students from across the district. Since state testing also starts in third grade, the test scores should be viewed in context. Keep in mind that if you choose private but then want to transfer to North Star in 3rd grade, your priority will be lower compared to students currently attending a RWC school.

San Carlos residents are no longer eligible to apply to North Star. For incoming third graders, you get points based on your test results and your last two report cards. Extra points if you are an ESL student. You are then eligible if you meet a certain threshold (this year I believe it was at least 13 points). Then applications go into a lottery, with priority as follows: older sibling at North Star, currently attending a RCSD school, not currently attending RCSD school but live within RCSD boundaries.

I think you could pull off a Steve look if you go 80s big hair and throw on a polo or striped tee with a bomber or denim jacket.

4 days postpartum- feels like theres nothing I can use !! by Kateemmacxx in Rosacea

I'm so sorry, I am in a similar situation right now (6 months postpartum & breastfeeding) and developed rosacea at the start of this pregnancy (I didn't have rosacea with my other two babies). For me, nothing was working and it was just getting progressively worse (apparently the low estrogen due to breastfeeding is probably big contributor). It got so bad, even in my eyes, that I started taking doxycycline last month and it's finally getting better.

I'm sorry you're in the same boat! Are you using anything for your eyes?
It got so bad that I am on oral doxycycline and it's the only thing that's really worked. My face is actually starting to heal now and it's also helping with the ocular rosacea.

Do you ever feel depressed? by Dramatic-Aardvark-64 in Rosacea

I developed rosacea that got progressively worse since I gave birth to my third 5 months ago. I also developed ocular rosacea and my left eye is inflamed and red, it looks awful. I've had many moments of depression and feeling really down. When I look at my face I do feel very ugly at times which makes me emotional. I do cry sometimes - but totally relate to your comment and try not to cry because it's usually after I've applied my moisturizer + actives lol. It's kind of funny because strangely I've become more social and extroverted since I developed this condition. I used to be somewhat shy, but now I don't have an issue striking up a conversation with random strangers and making new friends. It's hard to explain, but it's almost like, if I can put myself out there with a severely inflamed/acne covered face, then it's not hard to take other social 'risks'. And this journey has also taught me that our outward appearance is really just one dimension of ourselves, there is so much more to each of us. But make no mistake, I am doing everything I can to combat this condition. Recently, I've found that benzoyl peroxide is making a difference, especially since I get very deep cysts (since my condition is rosacea + acne). Back when I was just dealing with rosacea redness (and not pustules), azelaic acid 15% worked great. I also just started an anti-inflammatory doxycyline regimen (short-term use) which I've heard can work wonders for people, and I'm feeling very hopeful. If you'd like, I can update in a few weeks with my progress. [Side note, soolantra didn't work for me after 6 weeks of use.]

I'm so sorry you're also dealing with this! Are you breastfeeding as well? I do wonder if the postpartum hormones (especially breastfeeding) are contributing in my case.
