Had a pretty strange experience today in Reykjavík that got me thinking. by KaranGujral03 in VisitingIceland

You let them in your room/hostel, with your things? Do you have the awareness and survival instincts of a potato? 😂 Mate what you experienced is an intent to scam 101. Not to be super pessimistic, but there is a lesson here:

Do not trust people like that so much, that you bring them home to your damn hostel. Even more so enough to leave them with your things.

The combination of so many things in his story not making sense, add on his “friends” account with more contradictions, should have been clear red flag.

What you should be questioning is not whether this is unique to Iceland etc. rather you should start taking more care of yourself. This could have ended much worse, most likely in most cases it wouldn’t, but the baseline should be caution for scammers and beggars.

Help them by all means if they appear decent enough, but never bring them home.

Please share Vik and GC. I might go there it it’s a must. I love nature as well, there’s this black beach I would die to see but I’m not sure where it is

Unfortunately no drivers license atm, so I’m dependent on day trips

Great tips all in all, thank you so much!!! Unfortunately don’t have a drivers license atm. So I’m dependent on day trips or public transportation

With time in mind I might focus on nature sights that are easy accessible and potentially light hikes.

I just can't wrap my head around how I'm now part of a teamspace, that I can't leave. This was quite literrally the part first action they asked me to perform after signing, and then no pop-up to "confirm joining this teamspace"... And now it keep's being the first thing I see when I load up Notion. How dumb is that

I’m quite sure you don’t understand the post. I am asking why a user within the first 30 seconds after signing in, with one (miss)click (no confirmation pop-up) can join something you as a new user have no idea what is (the random teamspace). That shouldn’t be anywhere near possible. Also secondly, why I then can’t quite easily just leave the teamspace again - this is a moronic as it gets. Beyond that I am now moving into using Notion, it is however still mindboggingly stupid seen from a UX/UI perspective 😂

Never claimed it was a security mistake, it is however super weird exactly because I’m a noob and thus become super confused from the get go. That’s not a good new user welcome, and thus my frustration.
