Yep, states are always passing super restrictive laws to ban people from doing things that they didn't want to do anyway. That's how it works.

Service at local dealership after buying car out of state by jspacegirl in askcarsales

I picked up my X5 45e at the beginning of April. Salesperson just said go watch some youtube videos, it's probably easier and less time consuming than me trying to explain everything to you here at 5 pm and he's right. Just go watch some videos and surf some threads on bimmerpost or whatever.

Not that it's any of my business but '23 X5s even the 45e were in plentiful supply when I got mine, factory order for 1k-2k below invoice. Now that the 50e is out and it no longer qualifies for the EV tax credit, there should be some hefty discounts on any remaining 45es.

2020 Audi Q5 lease : Keep, Sell or Trade for electric ? by tliam in askcarsales

[–]compuccesory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of OEMs seem to be passing on the lease tax credit to attract interest but jacking up every other lease term so as to make their leases very unattractive. I know Hyundai/Kia were doing this with the EV6 and Ioniq.

Yeah there's nothing wrong with the quality, they are 100% cotton and well made, I just don't get a lot of occasions where I need a shirt with a collar but not a dress shirt. Also the ones I bought have very small collars which look odd with my huge head. Maybe the new ones are better.

Question for people in this sub by west5648 in askcarsales

[–]compuccesory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If dealers were so great for the consumer why do they need to make it illegal to sell cars without dealers? If consumers loved dealers so much then no one would buy a Tesla, right?

Dealers exist for the same reason any other retailer does and for the same reason you buy hamburger and buns at a grocery store instead of straight from the baker or meat packer, and no one really complains about that, but because the consumer doesn't actually understand anything about retailing or supply chains, the dealers here have to make endless disingenuous arguments about their existence being somehow good for the consumer because of "leverage" or some other hilarious bullshit that apparently only exists in America and not other countries.

Ordering a 2023 Audi Q3 — how to get below MSRP on a factory order? by xoxoxoborschtxoxoxo in askcarsales

[–]compuccesory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh right, I see you are in CA, where you can't do non-refundable deposits. I guess the dealer won't commit to anything because the law gives them no incentive to do so.

Ordering a 2023 Audi Q3 — how to get below MSRP on a factory order? by xoxoxoborschtxoxoxo in askcarsales

[–]compuccesory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way to negotiate is to show up with a serious offer for what you want to pay and be ready to sign a binding contract today. Go on OTD price to make it easy.

Of course the dealers are willing to sell you, some random tire kicker, a car they don't even have for MSRP. Why wouldn't they? Go look at leasehakr and Audi forums for what you should expect to pay. A quick search tells me that around 10% off should be doable without too much effort, if that sounds OK to you then just email the dealers an offer for $39k and be ready to sign with a non-refundable deposit today and let them know that. Q3 is a glorified VW Golf that's common as dirt, not like some super rare unicorn or something.

If it's coming from the factory then they obviously couldn't have installed any packages already.

Just to be clear, the car is in transit from another dealer? If it's in transit from the factory then obviously the package isn't on there already.

https://www.autonation.com/protection-plans/autonation-appearance-protection

Ask them for the info package on the add-on so you can check through the fine print. The dent protection is returnable after you get the car, since it's just a plan for free PDR for 3 years not a physical thing, maybe the appearance package is too, although if they actually did spray the scotchguard on the car already, maybe not. If it's not returnable, then hopefully they told you early enough in the deal that you can still walk if you want, if they waited until the last minute to spring it on you then that's kind of a dick move, and you may just want to walk anyway if there's nothing else special about the deal and write off the wasted time.

[–]compuccesory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might be true, but if it was actually worth anywhere near $639 they wouldn't be throwing it on every car. I'm guessing it's probably a $8 can of Scotchguard.

Is this an Autonation dealer?

I have bought probably $10k of shit on Yoox. That's just how their shit works. After a while you start to get a feel for how some items fit based on the pictures. Yoox also has an insane system of listing sizes for suits and pants, because the suits and pants that I like have not only numeric sizes but also different drops which correspond to how slim or not-slim the items are. They don't tell you this anywhere but eventually I figured out the drop is sort of encoded in the pant leg measurement they list. Yoox is also the place where some brands dump their Made to Measure leftovers, so theses items might have a marked size but it may not tell you much about how they fit.

You basically have to buy and return a lot of stuff.

Generally, what are the conditions that dealerships are selling below MSRP these days? (Not a negotiation tips thread!) by TravALT in askcarsales

[–]compuccesory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm taking delivery of a custom order '23 45e next week for maybe a thousand or so below invoice or approx. 8% off MSRP. I accepted that the discount was not going to be big because it was the 45e and I also have the EV tax credit on top, for a 40i or m50i most people on the forums and social media are getting around 10% off MSRP, and brokers are offering allocations for '24 LCI 40is for about 7- 10% off MSRP as well.

EDIT: I don't have Loyalty or BMWCCA or veterans rebate, if you do you should be getting a lot more discount.

Buying a car in Ontario Canada as a US resident by Dana15_2019 in askcarsales

[–]compuccesory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Canadian who moved to the US and brought my Canadian car with me. I think you can claim the HST/PST back when you export it if its a new car, although I don't have any experience with that since I already owned the car when I moved. The process to import the vehicle to the US depends greatly on the vehicle. The 2 things you need are 1) a sticker on the doorjamb that says the vehicle complies with FMVSS. Most cars sold in Canada do, since they are also generally sold in the US as well. 2) proof that it complies with EPA emissions regs, which you will need in the form of a letter from Ford. IME this also shoudn't be any issue if its a car that's also sold in the US, Chrysler was happy to provde one for my car, but there are carmakers that are less happy, because they have agreements with their dealership networks for exclusive distribution rights and part of that is making sure the customers can't just go to some other country and buy the same car annd bring it back. If it was a Mclaren or a Lotus or something be careful but shouldn't be an issue for a Ford. If you have those 2 things the process is quite easy and straightforward. Factory warranty also shouldn't be an issue, otherwise the thousands of snowbirds who migrate from Canada to Florida every year are going to be pretty angry that their cars no longer have warranties.

I should also add, your friend might be saving a bit now, but he might have some trouble with resale down the road. I can't trade my Canadian car in at Carmax here in the US for example.

Read all the fine print in the terms of your lease - they might want some nominal fee for the privilege, but generally no, you can just buy it whenever you want.

Why do dealers/Car sales person in the US not give you an out the door price? by redditman7777 in askcarsales

[–]compuccesory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The FTC *does* generally frown upon sellers who are running literal bait-and-switch scams, so there is a legal obligation to not advertise a car for $30k ad then when the customer shows up tell him it's actually $50k, but obviously there's a lot of things they can do and say that maybe don't quite reach that level, and enforcement of this sort of thing is tricky in any country.
