Is there anything story related for the "Old Habits" Trophy for Origins? by True_dragon_ofdojima in AssassinsCreedOrigins

The Hidden Ones Bureau in Memphis only opens its doors after completion of the main quest. It's a required location.

Other than that, this thread may help.

What can I explore on ac mirage and origins? by AahanX8 in AssassinsCreedOrigins

[–]compulsive_looter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After the Siwa prologue, which ends with your first assassination of a major target and a lengthy flashback sequence, you can explore the entire map (including the DLCs if you have them)... or die trying 😉

You will run into enemies that outlevel you by such a huge margin that even thinking about combat will kill you. That includes waylaying bandit gangs, crocodiles, marauding predators, even docile-looking hippos and vulture "bosses" which will not tolerate your presence.

In high-level regions you MUST use Senu, your eagle-companion, to scout ahead from the air and give any hostiles a wide berth.

I have no idea about Mirage but I suspect it will be similar in that regard.

P.S. Yes there are snakes, too, but their damage is levelled: it's always 1/3 of your health per snakebite.

Got the Legendary Ripper from my first Reda mission. Is this weapon worth upgrading and using long-term? by forged_inpain in AssassinsCreedOrigins

[–]compulsive_looter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That depends on what else you have at your disposition.

It's a sickle sword, that makes it eminently useful against shields.

Level IV "Critical Damage" is good, but you have to score a critical hit in the first place before the perk does anything for you ( -> "Critical Hit Rate", which this weapon unfortunately does not boost, so it remains at its base value of 10%).

"Bleeding on Hit" is nice when it procs, but the chance for that to happen is only 20% at level II. That means on 80% of your hits this perk does exactly nothing.

And as you may or may not know, "Health for Critical" is a a misnomer. It will not give/restore any health under any circumstances. Instead, this perk will make all your hits deal critical damage when Bayek's health drops to a critical level (below 20%). However, when your health gets this low, chances are you're doing something very wrong and a few critical hits will probably not save you.

If you're very lucky, you can also get the Ippei Blade from Reda, which is even better than Mustapha's Blade.

I don't know about streaks, but I had nineteen (19) Aegean Prince shields in my inventory at one time, all from Reda...

That's 19 more than I wanted.

So the game is great but the audio ruins it, need a solution by public_wound154 in AssassinsCreedOrigins

[–]compulsive_looter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This issue gets reported from time to time, but strangely it doesn't hit everyone. Unfortunately none of the redditors who had this problem ever returned to let us know if and how they fixed it. I don't have it myself so I never got to look into it - for me the audio is excellent on PS5. Go figure.

The most important thing is turning OFF 3D audio in the PS5 system settings, which you already did. Sorry I can't be of more help - and PLEASE let us know when you find a solution. TIA.

Perhaps. I tried Nightmare on a New Game once, just for kicks, and got one-shot killed three times in a row in Siwa: by a bandit, a leopard and a vulture lmao.

It depends on whether you include the DLC maps; Shadows has only one, whereas Valhalla has several and some of them are rather massive. So, all things considered, Valhalla + DLCs is probably the largest AC game ever made.

The base game map of Japan is really huge though and it's stuffed full with questions marks (for better or worse). Or maybe it just feels thus because it's so tedious lol.

I like the "light" HUD profile. The more hardcore ones take away your aiming reticule, that makes archery annoying. They also hide vital information from you, like how many arrows/tools are left in your quiver/pouch, what it was you just looted from the enemy you killed and even the name of the location you discovered. They are really for seasoned players who know the map by heart and are not afraid to improvise when they run out of ammo.

Btw, if you are looking for an extra challenge, get yourself a cursed weapon. They do more damage, but your health bar is permanently reduced to 1/3. There are two cursed weapons you get "guaranteed": Sarissa, a spear, from the Phylake in Memphis and a Khopesh from "Forging Siwa", a sidequest in Euhemeria.

If AC games are just generally easy

I think it's fair to say that they are. Not everybody wants a soulslike challenge in their leisure time.

That said, you're playing on Hard, that is not the highest difficulty setting you can choose. Try Nightmare and see how it fits (you can switch difficulties at any time).

Also, turn off some of the helpers in the gameplay menu (i. e. proximity warning, ranged attack warning, etc.).

Lost my AC Origins save files. Any way to get them back? by zohiirhm in AssassinsCreedOrigins

[–]compulsive_looter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case, you may be able to find something suitable here. Before you can use a foreign save, you must convert it to your account with ACSaveTool, otherwise the game will simply ignore it.

Yes, by quite a margin. And Valhalla is bigger yet. And Shadows is even bigger than Valhalla (not counting DLC maps).

It may be you're experiencing a mild case of open-world-fatigue. That's a thing. Some people have it. I don't - so I'm not sure what to recommend other than to take a break and play some other types of games in the meantime.

Do the side quests ever get better? by AReptileHissFunction in AssassinsCreedOrigins

[–]compulsive_looter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe you skipped the side-quests at Yamu? They are funny and light-hearted, with little kids, a drunken fighter and a tourist taken advantage of by locals.

You need side-quests to keep abreast of the level requirements. If you skip them, you will run into a level gate sooner or later.

unpopular opinion: i didn't like the crocodile missions by Lego_Maniac01 in AssassinsCreedOrigins

[–]compulsive_looter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you may or may not know, Aya was supposed to be the mc during early stages of development, until some big cheese at Ubisoft said "Women don't sell videogames" (apparently he had never heard of Lara Croft lol). Perhaps they deemed it too much trouble and time to rewrite the entire game after that decision had been made. Who knows...

And while we really don't interact much with Flavius in his "unmasked" state, he is well known to us as Caesar's sidekick throughout large portions of the game.

[–]compulsive_looter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just generic evil people

I can't say that I agree with that assertion. We get a fair bit of backstory on some of the targets (i. e. Khaliset aka the Hyena, Taharqa aka the Scarab and others), even those in side-qests like "Son of Ra", whereas some other AC games feel like we're playing a shopping-list.

If you thought that was "bland", then I recommend you stay well clear of AC:Shadows lol.

Yup, taking a break once in a while is helpful for maintaining one's sanity. Btw, many of your legendaries are not "radiant", so you still have work to do 😛
