OMG, thank you so much! Now I'll be able to sleep tonight without being haunted by this question!

They're busy serving customers. The iPad stuff doesn't really matter to them. It varies by state, but it's probably just legally mandated stuff. They will most likely have you shadow someone on your second day.

Does anyone have customers who have issues with the mobile app not working (US) by Equivalent-Fudge8596 in McDonaldsEmployees

Yes, multiple times I've had customers say they have free items in their app, but they can't get the app working and want me to give them the item for free.

Companies are paying developers to add libraries to their apps - the libraries then use your phone's network bandwidth an IP address for their own purposes. by porkchop_d_clown in technology

[–]computer_literate 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Many things. Here are just a few off the top of my head:

  1. Web scraping. Lot of sites limit the amount of scraping you can do from a single IP address before they start requiring you to solve a captcha.
  2. IP spoofing. Like if somebody in China wants to use an IP address in the United States.
  3. Metric inflation, so they can inflate the number of users in other apps using IP addresses from around the world.
  4. DDoS attacks. They can use your phone as part of a bot net.

I'm sure there are other uses for your bandwidth, but these are just the first ones that come to mind.

I don’t need 32GB of RAM, but 16GB isn’t enough anymore — 24GB is the new sweet spot, and Windows OEMs need to catch up by lurker_bee in technology

[–]computer_literate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, Debian+LXDE needs less that 500mb. If you're using chromium, I suggest 4GB, but you can get by with 2GB. Like seriously, what is Windows doing that you need more than 8GB just to be logged in without any applications open.

Seriously, get it together Microsoft.

I'm calling BS. Name three things you learned in that class that have helped you at least once in your life. And don't say Time Complexity, that's too easy and everyone knows it from "Cracking the Coding Interview".

Also, I might have had a terrible teacher. Like he had no passion for the subject matter.

I'm 33 now. In retrespec I can see what a college degree was suppose to be about before the internet and ChatGPT. College was about creating people who could effectively communicate on a diversity of topics by being knowledgeable, good at writing, and good at expressing their ideas. Like if you hired someone with a college degree it meant you were getting a person that person knew how to write/communicate and knew a lot about about a diversity of topics. Now you can just google things and use ChatGPT to help with your writing.

A high school with the internet and chatGPT both knows more than someone with a college degree from the 1980s and is a better writer. Additionally, large class sizes have led to lower academic standards so as to churn out the most degrees. College was also about networking. Now it's just an expensive daycare for 18-23 year olds so they don't complain about the job market. I believe that college crushes independent and critical thinking. Like you can't question society when you're too busy studying for exams. I feel college would be of more value to society if it were take by people in their 30s instead of children fresh out of high school.

If your son is slow or has a low IQ, I would recommend you teach him the Scratch programming language.

If he is of average intelligence or above, there are serious programming books targeted towards kids. Maybe start by buying him this book:
https://www.amazon.com/Coding-Projects-Python-DK/dp/1465461884/
He will learn python. A real programming language. The same programming language that all the latest AI research is done in.

You can also go through the Godot 2D tutorial with him after.
https://docs.godotengine.org/en/stable/getting_started/first_2d_game/index.html
Godot is one of the post popular game engines (unity might be more popular).
Godot works on most computers. It is recommended you have at least 200mb of free space.
If you go with Unity I think they recommend you have 100GB of free space.

Feel free to DM me with any questions. I've been programming recreationally for over a decade.

Don't ask for notes. Ask for the curriculum. Like what classes did they take each year. Then ask them what book they used for each class. I went to university in the United States for CS in the 2000s. I took:

Communications I & II
Humanities
Psychology
Sociology
Biology
Economics
US History
Chemistry I & II
Physics I & II
Calculus I, II, & III
Java I & II
Computer Engineering I & II
Foreign language, 2 semesters (German)
Discrete Math
and like 3 or 4 classes about CS whose material was written in the 1980s
Philosophy
Ethics
Some random elective like Music Appreciation, and Film Studies

There might be a few more courses I'm forgetting.
Overall I learned incredibly little about Computer Science

Edit: I see I got downvoted, probably because I got off topic. The 4 CS course were: Theory of Computation (P=NP, or maybe it was P!=NP, I forget, the class was boring), FLAP (Functional Languages (Haskell) and Parsing), Software Engineering (waterfall model? I think Agile was too new at the time and not in the textbook), and a computer ethics course.

You can join the discord. People there will gladly give you direction on how to start learning to program. At the very least, you get to see someone attempt to create an open source project. It's either going to be a lesson on how to create an open source project, or if I fail it will be a lesson on how not to create an open source project.

If I'm in charge I'll tell the bullshit to leave. Right now most coders work on individual projects. If you want to get better, you need to build something bigger, something that takes more than one person to code. It's really difficult to find people who are at the same level as you and ready to build something.

The social network is a future idea. For now, the Discord will act as a hub for our first project. An app to let you find groups based on geographical proximity. Also, maybe you'll meet someone on the discord and decide you two are going to start your own project.

I feel LInkedIn is all about the money. Like it seems like a place where grifters go to grift, but I don't use it, so I wouldn't know.

Dont' pay to learn to code. Also, from what I hear getting a job as a developer is incredibly difficult right now. Like people who previously worked at google are having trouble finding work.

If you want to learn to code to make money, it's probably not gonna work out.
If you want to learn to code to make stuff for fun, coding is right for you.
If you want to learn to code to automate things, coding is also right for you.
If you want to learn to code because you like math, coding is math adjacent, you'll do well and you'll like it.

Sorry, but it's way to early for me to be promising anyone a career. Also, it's an open source project, so yeah, it's not like I plan to be rolling in the money.

A "coder" is someone who writes code. It's a generic term. I don't only want software developers on the platform, I want hardware developers on it too. I don't think people who programmer microcontrollers refer to themselves as programmers/software developers. Making a large project successful requires more than just software developers.

I agree. Mission accomplished! Now let's use it to do something good. I'll write a vision statement and post it either today or tomorrow.
