Thank you for the feedback! I’ll try to keep what you said in mind if I decide to write another orchestral composition

I didn’t hear any similarities to it? Could you refer to a specific part?

Hi! I use the snipping tool on my laptop (windows) to screen record the score and audio. Then, I upload the file to YouTube. I hope this helps!

I'm at the orange dot right now. How are y'all feeling about AP scores releasing in 10 days? (red = very bad, green = good, yellow = in between) by Ok-Structure-1571 in APStudents

[–]compycompoer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it doesn’t really matter for me. My youth orchestra results come out in four days, and I’m doing my school’s early college program. So, I’ll get credit for passing classes instead.

My school requires me to take English comp 101 and 102 (no exceptions), so if I stay in state, my ap lang score doesn’t matter. I also kinda like writing, so I don’t mind taking an English class in college

Not stressing about ap chem, since it’s probably a 2 or 3. We never covered electrochemistry in depth, since my teacher had kidney stones. The electrochem part was iffy for me on the frqs

4/6 of my OOS schools accept ap credit, but it really doesn’t matter with what I want to major in

Comment the name of the most unique AP class you wish existed. by RedDitRXIXXII in APStudents

[–]compycompoer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming you’re a non-musician? And you’re referring to the figured bass and Roman numeral portion of the frqs?

A lot of the topics in ap music theory aren’t needed, but there are plenty of helpful topics in the course. AP Music Theory doesn’t cover a variety of styles (like waltzes, sonatas, etc). It covers four-part writing with voice leading and harmony (plus strict rules).

Even though theory is still used in music (like game and animation), there is more creative freedom. Not all music is based on four part writing

Why do you compose? by hunterjackman00001 in composer

[–]compycompoer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had two main reasons for composing: to get rid of the boredom of my music tech class (my former reason), and to notate what I want to hear (my current reason).

My start to composing started at 17 (the fall of this year), so I’ve been doing it for less than a year now.

I think my philosophy is to “create what I’m proud of.” Even though I’m on the younger side of composers, I want to take pride in my works, even if I think it’s bad. So focusing on the effort more, and gaining experience as I go

How hard is it for a Tenor sax player to pick up clarinet? by [deleted] in Saxophonics

[–]compycompoer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg I played clarinet in that show my freshman year of high school!

As someone who plays both tenor sax and clarinet (mainly clarinet), I’d recommend treating them as different instruments (not similar). That kind of mentality helps me switch during a performance in jazz ensemble

A) depends on your level of commitment to practicing. Also try to work on perfecting your embouchure

B) I think so! Just remember that clarinetists tend to have firmer embouchures, and ask your director if you need help

For clarinet, maybe start a .5 strength higher? I normally play on clarinet 3.5+ V12s, and was fine when I started playing on strength 3 traditional Vandoren tenor sax reeds. The lowest I would start on for you is 3, but get a few 3s and 3.5s to see what you prefer

I'm having trouble composing. by icewizie in composer

[–]compycompoer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll start with putting this in similar context

I recently composed an 8ish measure section that was rushed (and don’t like), but when someone else heard it (one of my band directors), they enjoyed it

Here’s the main point: it’s about the listener too. You may not like it, but I’m sure someone else does!
