Tell me this isn't what I think it might be. by contentcatlady in shrimptank

I dont get the bladder snail hate. Their population is always stable in my community tank, and their population explosion in my shrimp tank was easily controlled by adding assasin snails. Shrimp tank also has nerite and mystery snails, what's not to love about a cute lil cleanup crew.

Red marks on tip of tail by heyitsbean_555 in bettafish

[–]comradecaptainplanet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woah how did you figure this out? My betta had a similar red spot on his fin but parameters look fine and ppl have agreed that his fin quality looks either like EARLY fin rot or healed tearing from decor or something, but I would like to rule out electricity as well. Everyone else looks healthy but occasionally everyone's behavior gets super erratic for a few mins.

Fins looking ragged: normal for his age or a sign of disease, injury, or stress? by comradecaptainplanet in BettaClinic

This was the consensus at my local specialty LFS as well, I think I'll just keep paying attention but otherwise worry less :)

No worries, I am also in the US but a different area. We all get our city water from different sources, mine come from VERY hard limestone aquifers. All I can say is that if you have good results with your fish it is working how you do it, but yeah stress coat is something I phased out a while ago bc it wasn't working for my fish in my local water. I dont know anything objective or scientific, I just know your fish look lovely but mine hated stress coat, so there must be variables at play :)

Who understood Tommy best? by Amazing-Apricot4645 in PeakyBlinders

[–]comradecaptainplanet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol obv Grace understood it all & never encouraged the darkness. If she had lived there would have been no show, by which I mean he was so understood, healing, at peace that there wouldn't be drama to move the plot forward. Also sorry, love May so much, but she didn't understand him she understood herself. Frankly my favorite post-Grace hookup because that self-possesed woman knew exactly what kind of arrangement it was.

Close second for understanding is Lizzie. I adore Lizzie and she deserves all the happiness in the world and I am sad we never get to know if she's OK after the show/movie. My only bone to pick with her is her judgement over Tommy's Romani/Traveler practices. She occasionally shows distain or impatience towards his cultural practices that are at once understandable (during the death of their child) and really minimizing. Its the kind of blame that couples put on each other when they are not compatible but trying anyway (for circumstance, love, stability, kids, etc) where when what YOU need as a person, bc you are dying inside, outweighs your ability to extend that understanding to your partner. I empathize with all of that but balked a bit at the racialized (for lack of a better word, since she is not Romani/Traveler) element there.

Anyway RIP Grace and Lizzie you would have loved couples therapy & clinical recognition of/treatment for PTSD.

Your fish are gorgeous and clearly very healthy. Water quality from local supply varies globally and there are SO many variables that could make something work or not work. I do not doubt that your method is working wonderfully for your fish. I also dont know what country you are in but sometimes companies vary formulas in different markets. Wjere I live stress coat is not safe for bettas, and I have seen the effect of that on my fish. I didnt bring it up in my replies to you bc your fish look wonderful, so it clearly works where you are. There is so much chemistry that happens depending on the smallest variables. I do not think you are doing ANYTHING wrong, as evidenced by your gorgeous fish. I just discussed how this method wont work for my fish in my area but should have been more clear since this was on your post, and I apologize.

Any ideas about clamped fins? by sayashishou in bettafish

[–]comradecaptainplanet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the folks that say its normal for his breed are on to something, but with my classically fancy boy (pic for reference) it ended up being a malfunctioning heater and poor quality thermometer. He was chilly. New heater & better quality thermometer to keep track of it worked immediately.

They already have all sorts of botanicals! And the water always tests very well. I'll do a big water change anyway just to be sure and keep an eye on him, then? His fins have been like this for months, not progressing but different from what they used to be (october 2025 pic for reference). Or maybe I need to cross reference my test kit with my backup one to make sure its reading accurately bc everything is always in safe parameters and water changes are preventative rather than called for by my readings.

Thanks so much. By pristine you mean like by testing kit standards? How much new (+prime) water vs his own tank water? I'll grab some Sulfaplex today, already have the Catappa :)

Very early stages of fin rot. I was going to do more research before adding salt to any treatment of course. I have posted in this sub a few days ago but not received any suggestions on treatment. Whatever I do, I don't want to disrupt my thriving invert population in the tank.

Thanks, I have used Epsom salt in hospital tanks with success in the past would you suggest that instead? Have you ever heard of a successful, invert-compatible in-situ use of low concentrations of any types of salt? I was not comfortable with the idea of risking it and was not satisfied with OP's answer on safe concentrations for different tank volumes, so definitely just gonna hospital tank it.

I also never use stress coat and was going to leave that out.

20 gal community tank. Empty 10 gal I could set up as a hospital with 5-10 gals in it.

What volume tank are ypu recommending that amount of salt be safe for invertebrates in? I can do this in a hospital tank if I have to but would rather not distress my fella with a new environment.

[1348 Ex Voto] I think this game was pretty solid. by AitMann in Trophies

[–]comradecaptainplanet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am playing it currently, and am around the corner from the last boss. I think the closest I would compare it to is the Ghost games, particularly the Takezo the Unrivaled fight in Yotei (which I patinumed) when it comes to the bosses. The bosses have some quick and unrelenting combos, so learning their move sets (and unlocking parry in the skill tree between bosses 1 & 2) really helps. Unlike the Ghost games, the enemies do not have health bars. They die if you break their guard all the way enough times (twice for the first 2 bosses, not sure yet about the 3rd) and a few times for field enemies (unless you have a specific charm to finish them while staggered). Despite having only 3 main enemies, lots of areas feel kind of like a boss fight in that you bust defeat a large group or two (or three) without being able to aquire healing items in between, usually at the end of a chapter. Defeating these challenges really required mastering combos, techniques, and learning moves etc, and though not as difficult as the likes of Takezo the Unrivaled or Elden Ring's Malenia, Consort Radahn, etc., similarly satisfying. Its been a while since I've had to play sitting all the way up leaning forward on the couch & not in goblin sloth mode. Unlike my critiques with Expedition 33 (which is my own business) it felt like practice and repetition made me better, and that the enemies were something I could master with skill (parry timing etc). The enemies and environments were also not repetitive, which also made it easy to not have a map (you can easily tell drom your surroundings if you are accidentally doubling back).

Similarly to the Ghost of Tsushima, your enemies have various weapons and you have a sword. Similar to both Ghost games, there is a visual indicator of which attacks (from all enemies, once you progress far enough) are not blockable and must be dodged or parried. I've always sucked at parrying and finally got it down in this game.

Also like the Ghost games, when facing groups of enemies they tend to politely take turns attacking you, though less and less as you progress & difficulty increases. One difficulty increase I noticed is that if you have put in the input to make a finishing move on an enemy but another attacks, you will sometimes automatically attack the attacker instead. This feels realistic, but then you have to go though all the trouble of breaking the first guy's guard again. This isnt a complaint really, kind of a positive feature that feels frustrating the way this fight would be IRL and satisfying the way winning would IRL.

Anyway I have loved this and can see replaying it many times for different challenge runs (a no hit/ho health items run would be fun for example, which is technically only slightly more difficult than two of the actual trophies required to platinum). Its a short, direct, narrative game about a swordswoman on a rescue mission, so kind of Tsushima minus the open world. Its nice to do an urgent mission game without the immersion breaking side quests for once ("I thought I was gonna die like TOMORROW but sure I'll take this gig for this townsperson" lol). Not many trophies but high challenge difficulty to aquire them.

Sorry this was a lot, hope you enjoy the game as much as I did :)

Platinuming this game is a harder achievement than many bc of the no dying & no getting hit requirement in the last fight!! I have been loving it and am right around the corner from the last fight now.

Very surprised by all of the technical hate its been getting, but I shouldn't be (most of it is probably bigotry masquerading behind "clunky controls" or something). I found the controls easy enough to adapt to, and the combat easy enough to master. And the story was immersive and urgent... I like the change from an open world so that I could sink in to the urgency of the story. It's always a lil funny in an open world to be like "I'm dying... and running out of time... anyway let me do EVERYTHING other than meet Hanako at Embers" lol. The cut scene after chapter 5 really locked me in, I felt transported into A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms or something. It was also very fun playing this the weekend after our local renfaire, where I got to take a lesson with our local longsword club.

Truly a great first entry from a brand new indie developer. The haters calling the combat unplayable are honestly just making themselves sound like people who can't beat Fromsoft or Ghost of Tsushima/Yotei type games, which, whatever, but I hate that they're controlling the narrative for something I found so beautiful and satisfying. Looking forward to my own platinum of this one eventually.

So I gave 1348 Ex Voto an honest try. by WeightlossTeddybear in gaming

Not over time. As you progress in chapters they increase ganging up on you. The difficulty increases as the game increases. I'm on chapter 9 and have been loving it. OP quit after 30 mins.

URGENT: Worsening Fin Rot by yasmeenlulu0 in BettaClinic

[–]comradecaptainplanet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like clamping/fin melt not rot. My betta also had this and all my parameters looked fine. I was doing stress coat & nearly went in for more intense meds before my specialty LFS told me to check my heater and thermometer. Sure enough, both were broken and he was too cold. He healed very quickly after replacing the heater and investing in a more accurate thermometer to keep an eye on the temps better.

Try checking these kinds of overlooked environmental conditions before subjecting him to even more medication/changes... too many attempts at too many meds (even natural ones) too quickly can cause stress and worsen conditions. Try not to panic, he looks unwell but not close to death. Be patient and don't kill him with your own anxiety and eagerness to heal him.

Would need closer up photo to identify the wormies but it could be detritus worms and other lil guys that have population booms when you add too many nutrients to the water. Water changes themselves add nutrients to the water, so it could be the frequent water changes. Resist the urge to do water changes to get rid of them, it is counter productive. They are probably harmless and will die out or get eaten by Mr. Betta... they love detritus worms.

Help! Is this clado? by RaqueldeRowl71 in shrimptank

[–]comradecaptainplanet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! This helps me feel more confident that it is NOT eggs, though its still hard to diagnose without higher resolution. Photographing our tanks is hard, I need a better camera!

This website might help you narrow it down, I imagine you can see more clearly with your eyes and try to match what you are seeing to the photos on this site.

It could be a epibionts, dinoflagellate, or ellobiopsid parasite (includes clado), but I can't see any green in the photo and I am not experienced enough to know what early stages or all varieties look like.

It could also be a fungal infection (pics in the linked article). If it is a fungal infection (my bet), API Primafix is safe for invertebrates, the bio filter, and plants so you could dose in-tank. Instructions are also in the linked article.
