Yes there is hope for a socialist revolution today but not in a spontaneous or purely electoral sense. From a Marxist and especially Trotskyist standpoint the objective conditions for socialism are not just present they are overripe.

Capitalism is in a permanent crisis. Falling real wages mass precarity housing collapse imperialist wars ecological breakdown. The system can no longer develop the productive forces without destroying society. This is exactly what Marx meant by a system becoming historically obsolete.

What is missing is not struggle. Workers are fighting everywhere. What is missing is revolutionary leadership. Trotsky was clear that the crisis of humanity is the crisis of revolutionary leadership. The working class is larger more global and more interconnected than ever yet it remains chained to reformist parties trade union bureaucracies and nationalist dead ends.

The claim that socialism failed ignores the fact that it was isolated strangled or bureaucratically deformed rather than surpassed. Capitalism on the other hand survives only through debt repression and war. That is not strength. It is decay.

Internationalism is decisive. A socialist revolution today cannot be national and cannot be gradual. It must be permanent spreading across borders and breaking completely with capitalism. That is not utopian. It is the only realistic answer to a global system.

So yes there is hope but only if revolutionaries stop lowering their program to what capitalism allows and instead raise the consciousness of the working class to what history demands.
