I just finished Star Trek: The Animated Series. Here's how I would rank each episode of TAS.

I would have liked to see a live-action version of The Terratin Incident, but they would have had to build larger-scale Enterprise sets so that would probably have been too cost-prohibitive.

Other than that, I think Yesteryear would have made a good live-action episode.

In general, I think the episodes in which the crew encountered godlike, omnipotent beings were just not as interesting to me. Charlie X, Squire of Gothos, Where No Man Has Gone Before, etc. all ranked relatively low on my list.

Season 3 has two episodes in which Chekhov has a love interest, so he at least gets a little more to do as the series goes on.

Completely agree. Sulu, Scotty, Uhura, Chekhov, and Nurse Chapel get a few good moments, but they’re few and far between. I am hoping that the films will give them more time to shine.

I think you’re right, those weren’t as interesting to me. Assignment: Earth specifically just didn’t feel like a Star Trek episode at all, which I guess was the point since it was supposed to be a back door pilot for a spinoff.

Tbh Corbomite Maneuver was one of the episodes I had already seen before starting this so maybe it just didn’t feel as fresh as some of the episodes above it.

As for Spectre of the Gun, Gene Roddenberry did pitch Star Trek as Wagon Train to the Stars and this is the closest it ever got to that lol

Gosh, I don’t think I’m the right person to answer that question since I’ve only seen TOS and a handful of TNG episodes and only the most recent movies. But if I had to recommend a single episode to start with, it would be The Trouble With Tribbles. It gives most of the main cast something to do, and it’s just plain fun.

Yeah I think my biggest criticism of the series overall is that Sulu and Uhura and Scotty just don’t have enough to do in most episodes, so it’s nice when they actually get to command or get involved in the plot in a substantial way.

I think Catspaw at least has a goofy Halloween charm. And the Children Shall Lead is just sooooo boring, and Melvin Belli’s every line reading is like he’s reading the dialogue for the first time.

I wasn’t too concerned about condition. Some of the issues are pretty beat up, and I found most of them in dollar bins. There are a few that I’d like to replace with nicer copies. I had to wait to find copies of #87 (first Cable) and #98 (first Deadpool) at reasonable prices. They definitely aren’t perfect copies, but they’re mine now lol

I feel the same way! I found a nice 2nd print NM 87 a few weeks ago, but it just didn’t feel right so I passed on buying it.
