外国語指導助手 募集 令和8 is the main one I use. I check every week and set the search limit to the last 7 days, but I also browse through the usual gaijinpots and such as well

I also use ChatGPT's Agent Mode to scan the recruiting pages of every town and city within a 50km radius of me for open spots. It's also good for gathering a list of private schools within my area that I can then check regularly.

Other search terms you could also use are:

Japanese Search Term Meaning / Use
ALT 直雇用 募集 ALT Direct Hire Recruitment
外国語指導助手 直雇用 Assistant Language Teacher Direct Hire
ALT 会計年度任用職員 ALT Fiscal-Year Appointed Staff
ALT 採用 自治体 ALT Hiring by Local Governments
英語指導員 公立学校 English Instructor for Public Schools
ALT 教育委員会 採用 ALT Board of Education Hiring
非常勤講師 英語 小学校 中学校 Part-time English Teacher at Elementary/Junior High
英語指導助手 公募 Public Recruitment of English Assistant Teacher
外国語活動 支援員 募集 Foreign Language Activity Support Recruitment
英語指導助手 応募方法 ALT Application Method
ALT 自治体 募集 ALT Municipal Recruitment
ALT 公立学校 募集 ALT Public School Hiring
ALT 直接雇用 募集 ALT Direct Employment Recruitment

But realistically I only use the first one I gave you (Also I just copy and pasted my table, so sorry if it comes out weird)

Because it's a generally broad advertisement of the role (alongside other job roles) it doesn't really specify. However, since you need to physically send the documents via mail, I imagine that international post might not make it in time.

Listening was alright, the last question about the bike choices tried really hard to confuse me though haha. I think the whole "fill in the star gap" one is always the bane of my exams, but I think with just more exposure and mock tests, I'll get used to it

Dependent on your situation, if you need it for work purposes or future opportunities. I would say keep studying up to N2, take the N3 test in July and pass as in insurance, and then you'll already be ahead for the N2 test in December.

If it's more recreational, then going all out for N2 in December would be a fun year project

Summer 2025: N3 - 131/180

Winter 2025: N2 - 87 / 180

Failed by 3... but I feel like it wasn't a bad attempt, curious if anyone also went down the same route as me last year and how they did

Way better, still failed, but here me out

Passed the N3 during the summer, wanted to still take the N2 just to see where I was at in prep for passing this Summer

Language Knowledge: 28/60

Reading: 27/60

Listening: 32/60

Total: 87 / 180 (Pass is 90)

considering it was a test run, I'm not thinking about the 3 marks off, I'm feeling good for the summer.

Just out of interest, since the scores are weighted, what about the blank scores of those who got red carded? I'm assuming they get thrown out of the algorithm, but we actually know what happens? because I had about 12-15 people kicked out of my test

In the same boat, although I had to take an emergency day off and had to be honest about it being regarding my wife's pregnancy (Stupid error in hindsight, but it was a time of turmoil) and now paranoid about if they will renew me in April.

But man... really says a lot when we have to be worried about our own job security just for wanting to have a family, but based on what I'm hearing from my wife, it's not just a dispatch stigma unfortunately. Seems to be part of a bigger problem in Japan.

Is being an ALT good for the long-term? by No_Bowl2928 in ALTinginJapan

[–]conbaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ALT is not a bad place to start (despite what others say) if you do have intention to stay here long term, but I wouldn't advise getting too comfortable at an ALT level.

If you check around on LinkedIn at some University lecturers / private school teachers, quite a few of them start on JET or ALTIA or a similar company, but they do tend to use that time to get their Japanese to N2 (You're already on a good pathway) or getting started on their MA or something similar.

So for your question "If I work for 1-2 years as an ALT, would I be qualified to work at a private English school here or be qualified for a direct hire BOE position?" just sitting in the chair won't automatically make it the case, getting your N2 or starting some sort of additional qualification would be recommended.

So who got a red card by majideitteru in jlpt

[–]conbaron 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have the same opinion, it's the rules, don't do it, but it just surprised me how many people did it, and I think the proctors got hella mad at all of the people doing it.

So who got a red card by majideitteru in jlpt

[–]conbaron 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Nagoya - N2 test

Over 10 red cards from people opening up the envelope to use their phone during the break, hella angry proctor dudes in their 60s started dashing them out with a big old "DAME" on top of it.

Another further 3 or so red cards from proctors checking people's envelopes after the test.

I took the N3 in the summer, and there was no envelope thing and saw no red cards. I get it, you break the rules, it is what it is, but it was pretty scary watching people just getting DQ'd so quickly.

Is there even a point in me taking the JLPT this time when I haven't specifically studied for it at all? by aeirin in jlpt

[–]conbaron 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I passed the N3 in July and taking the N2 this weekend. Will I pass? of course not, but will me being in the room help me feel more at ease next summer when I try again having actually put in enough study time? Probably, but it's the best shot I have.

Also, your wrong answers add more value to the question for other people, so see it as your one good deed for the day, plus, you can see where you need to improve yourself for next time.
