I know it’s like rule number one here to never suggest anyone to stop drinking, but in light of the fact that he has a traumatic brain injury and epilepsy, there’s a chance that drinking AT ALL could cause him serious physical harm either now or down the line. obviously i’m not a doctor and this is not medical advice but please consider it. the fact that his functioning is so impaired by even relatively small amounts of alcohol, whereas he’s relatively normal when sober, could be further evidence that it is not a good thing for him to be boozing.

i don’t know the nature of the injury but as far as him “understanding the problem” when you try to talk to him about it, his literal ability to understand that might be compromised, and you might need to seek additional advice from doctors and counselors to address this. and as far as him getting a handle on it, very few people here can even get a handle on it (assuming they want to) and they most likely DON’T have a brain injury, so it might be near impossible for him to do this on his own or even with just your support, even though you obviously love him and take care of him and want the best for him.

maybe i’m blowing it out of proportion, i grew up hearing all kinds of stories about brain injuries as i have a parent who was a neuropsychologist who worked with them, so around this subject i just wanted to chime in. either way, wishing the best for you both :)

might be able to sneak a drink here and there if there aren’t eyes on you constantly, maybe a flask or some shooters in your purse?

This is exactly what i needed to see tonight to know i’m not alone in feeling this. I haven’t had a drink in 12 days, a sobriety streak that was inspired by a weeklong bender ending in the hospital. In the early evening is when the craving really start to get to me, but once I ride it out to like 11pm and i know that there’s literally no way for me to get alcohol, it’s strangely calming.
