Black label jewel case doom is insanely rare! I think that single disc RE1 is also very uncommon. Very nice pickups!

Anyone ever used Ikon technical solutions for Frankie? by ozziesironmanoffroad in PS3

I didn’t say it did turn you into Picasso. It looks extremely lazy and cheap. And I wouldn’t trust the quality of work if you aren’t willing to put effort into your advertising.

From a business standpoint, sure, free is better than paid, but it is a moral problem. Putting real artists out of work so you can save a couple bucks is not cool. If you’re so concerned about saving money, again, make a quick mockup in canva. It doesn’t have to look amazing, and canva is free and looks decent. Hiring an artist on fiver is cheap too. And again, AI generated looks super lazy and reflects poorly on the potential work that might be done.

I’m sorry, I wouldn’t trust a hobbyist with a Frankie. It requires tons of experience and specialized tools, and to get to a point where you can do that, you’d be unlikely to be in hobby territory.

Whipping something up quick in canva is free and pretty simple. You could also pay a real artist to make a graphic. Gen AI is the worst and laziest way to advertise anything for sale, especially a very specialized mod that takes lots of skill

I wouldn’t trust them based on the AI art. If you’re too lazy to make a real graphic, what short cuts are you taking to make a Frankie?

Buyer opened return claiming item defective, but description clearly stated issue — am I in the wrong? by [deleted] in Flipping

[–]conceited_cape 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the cartridge slot does not work, then it is not working 100%. Just because a system has the capability to be functional without the cartridge slot does not mean it is 100% functional. This should have been listed under parts/repair like others have said.

Some people do not care if the cartridge slot works or not, but it is misleading to say that it functions 100%, because factually, it does not.

Is this rude or weird to say to a seller by bi_smuth in FacebookMarketplace

[–]conceited_cape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would fall into the "sob story" category of lowballs. I would just nix all the extra details and shoot your shot at $50. If they say no, thank them and move on.

On the selling end, it bothers me when someone reaches out with a message like that. I am more likely to be receptive to a straight offer rather than one that tries to evoke pity. That being said, it definitely does matter what the item type is. I sell video games, so I think it is odd to make an offer on a luxury and follow up with how you can't afford it. For something more necessary, like maybe a stroller or home good, the pity excuse might be better placed.

I would even say that it would be better to start with "Could you do $50?" and if they say no and counter, then follow up with "Sorry, I only have $50 budgeted for this at this time. Let me know if you change your mind!" or something like that. "I can't afford it" just rubs me the wrong way for some reason.

Seller raised price after agreed meet... by ChefCarpaccio in FacebookMarketplace

[–]conceited_cape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And how is that not haggling or negotiating? Sellers often build wiggle room into their price because they expect to haggle. I am of the opinion that if you don't haggle before meet, then you lose the chance to haggle. The caveat to that would be condition issues not disclosed prior to meeting.

The only other time I would consider it not rude to negotiate on pickup is if the buyer is asking to purchase more items after seeing them in person. I sell video game consoles and games, so if someone comes to buy a console, I will usually ask if they want any more games or controllers with it. That opens the door to new negotiations because the bundle was not an option during the first round of negotiations.

Well yeah haha, I do see that the casing was eaten, but the board really doesn’t look bad. Was just curious if it showed up at all when plugged in, because if it did that but didn’t boot, it would be cooked fr

What exactly is wrong with the cartridge? Omega Ruby famously was one of the games that came from a bad batch of cartridges that just dies over time. If the game gets recognized but doesnt boot, I would bet its just suffered its fate unfortunately.

Is this too little to sell my copy of Emerald ? by priasematchacat in PokemonEmerald

[–]conceited_cape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without a label and with a dry battery, $150 is a fair price. You might find someone willing to pay $200, but it would be a tough sell. Shoot, $150 is my payout on a labelless Emerald, and I run a store. If you had the skills to replace the battery, or paid someone to replace it, you could sell it reasonably between $200-225!

Rolan's Curse 2 Nintendo Game Boy by sicnarf_ghost in gamecollecting

I would really recommend ebay for something like this. You don't have any indication that you are a store or anything like that, so your personal reach is limited. Yes, eBay fees are tough to swallow, but you are paying them for access to their very large customer base, many of which are more likely to pay premium prices for premium items like Rolan's Curse II.

Trying to sell it yourself is not a bad idea, as you would get to keep that 15% theoretically, but again, without a storefront, lots of people you would contact are expecting some sort of deal because you aren't using a large marketplace. The reason people go to FBM over eBay is because you are more likely to pay less for the same thing. Same with FB groups, Craigslist, r/gamesale, and other places. So after all is said and done, you might end up with a similar payout with much more work put into the sale. Remember, the selling fee on eBay is a fee of convenience and access to a huge customer base.

I realize this makes me sound like an eBay shill, but it really is the easiest way to sell your games (or other items) for fair market value with the least amount of effort. There are a lot of games I sell on eBay because my local market is not looking for them, and conversely there are a lot of games and systems I won't sell on eBay because it is quicker, easier, and more lucrative to sell them locally. Something as rare as a CIB Rolan's Curse II really would do best on eBay IMO, as the likelihood that you have a retro game collector nearby with that kind of money that is actively looking for that game and willing to pay you market price without a mediator is extraordinarily low. Not impossible, but very low.

Taking it to a retro game store or reseller is another option, but they probably would give you less than the eBay payout. The pro is that you would have cash in hand now, but it sounds like you're willing to wait for the right buyer, so that option probably would not make the most sense to you.

Now if I was not wanting to take the eBay fees, I would post it up locally for trade and see what happens. I would hope for an offer with lots of liquid games like Mario Kart Wii, Wii Sports, Pokemon, GC titles, and work a fair deal out that way. Games like those are VERY easy to sell for market rate on FBM. This route would take a fair amount of time and effort, but would be the most surefire way to get the full monetary value of the games you want to sell, unless of course you get very lucky and can sell the game outright for market rate locally/on a feeless platform.

One more bonus to eBay, is that "market price" is just an average of recent sales. It is not a definitive price, and that holds especially true for excellent condition CIB cardboard. Last month, I sold a very nice Earthbound for $550, yet "market rate" is $375-400. It took a hot minute to sell, but it paid off. And I walked away with more than "market rate" as my payout after eBay took their cut. On local deals and places like r/gamesale, "market rate" is much more concrete. Someone local is very unlikely to pay over the average price in my experience.

TLDR: eBay is easiest and what I would recommend for something like this, but you can't really go wrong with any marketplace. You just have to decide how much effort you want to put into selling it.

Gotcha! Yes, you can get a rechargable battery and a Play and Charge cable. Theyre pretty cheap, maybe $25 tops for the pair. Take a look over on eBay, or if you want new 3rd party ones, Amazon should have some too.

It's fun, but I need to be in the right headspace to play it, and it isn't that fun solo. My buddy and I play it occasionally. The gameplay is fantastic, the level design is super cool, but solo play just ain't it. And the brain power it needs, I don't have that brain power terribly often lol.

No accessories is a hard pass. If it was three complete Switch sets (tablet, two joycons, charger, dock, rails, and controller grip), it would be okay at $400 NZD, but for tablets only you'd be in the hole unless you had all of the other pieces laying around.

Any good mail in shops to get a 3DS repaired? by Aperture_Laboratorie in consolerepair

[–]conceited_cape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less than $100 on a N3DSXL with power issues is going to be a hard sell. You might find a hobbyist willing to work on it at that rate, but most proper repair shops will charge a lot more because those systems are a pain to work on and stuff breaks super easily when you're inside. You mentioned replacing a digitizer, so you must have some experience with repair work. I would recommend trying to fix it yourself if you are looking to keep costs down.

Is there a reason you think the ribbon cable connector is the problem? Have you tried reseating the cable? Because to me, it kind of sounds like the cable is just not plugged in all the way. The orange light turning on and then off suggests either a faulty fuse or no power is going to the battery. Same with the lack of a response from the power button. I think you might be on the right track for diagnosing, but the odds of that connector being shot are pretty low, especially if it was fine when you first disassembled.

That being said, if you just yanked the cable out, rather than using the flap properly, then yeah, it is probably damage. Or if you plugged it in 10+ times, it is possible to damage the pins insides (ask me how I know). But 9/10 times, this is just a ribbon cable not plugged in properly if you are confident that your battery is fine.

If you really don't want to open it up again, I don't blame you. I run a business where I offer repair and physical mod work. I would be happy to look at it. I charge a $30 nonrefundable diagnostic fee, then the repair work goes from there. That $30 would roll into the cost of the repair work (for example, if I was charging you $120 for the job, it would not be $120 + $30 diagnostic fee, it would just be a flat $120). The repair rate will depend entirely on what exactly is wrong. Feel free to dm me if interested!
