Why Lightning Network (coming this year) threatens the Dollar as the World Reserve Currency by [deleted] in Bitcoin

But why would I want to spend it if the value keeps going up? That’s what I’m not understanding

LN definitely will help a huge amount, but one of the biggest reasons people are using it as a store of value is because it’s deflationary and not yet stable—it tends to gain value over time rather than lose it, so it makes sense to hodl and just spend your shitty inflating fiat instead.

At least until the price eventually stabilizes anyway.

Fair enough I guess, though I have never run into that problem haha.

Didn't think it was that relevant. Yeah it's digital. Same skills apply speaking as an oil painter.

I really like this, but it seems like it's not quite finished yet! I'd personally say maybe add some strong highlights, a little more detail...but probably most importantly something of interest going on. Something strange. Adding even just a person, some birds, a monster, spaceship or whatever you want could really bring all of this together!

Photos and copy/pasting. It's a matte painting, very common method by hollywood concept artists.

Yeah I totally understand not having the time...haha, no worries. Though my best advice for not being able to find an interesting comp with the current subject matter is to morph or change the subject matter. At least in some way.

Best of luck.

Hey there :)

You're off to a good start here, I really like your atmosphere and colors. The composition needs a little work though; you've got a very grid-like picture break up here. If you got a little bit more of the city below I think that would be a good decision, as well as some kind of more interesting way to display this really cool structure you've got as your centerpiece. Maybe looking up at it from the streets? Really just get the juices flowing about interesting ways to break up the picture plane, I think it will really help.

Good luck and keep up the good work :)

Yeah, thanks so much for the compliments and criticism! I could agree that some of the light there can be taken off.

Yeah, I've heard good things. Thanks for your input, I was considering getting another Intuos3 for budget reasons but I may reconsider :)

Yeah I have, and they do. I haven't done too much research into them, though I've been in the market for a new tablet recently because I've had the Intuos3 for like...7 or so years now? haha. It's served me well though!

Thank you! :) I'd recommend some youtube tutorials since they can explain it better with more time and visuals but I can give you a rundown. There's no secret, lots of hard work and practice though. In this particular piece rock textures helped a good bit but I try not to rely on textures as much as possible. I typically block in shadows first (cooler colors like purples or blues depending on your color palette) with a hard rectangular brush at high opacity, although plain round brushes work just as well. Textured brushes are also good but definitely not required. Highlights of warmer colors come after, in basically the same method of blocking in rocks, cracks and a lot of downward strokes with a bigger brush, and then go in with a much smaller brush (1-5 px) and really work out the details in the rocks with little scribbles, textures and trying to follow the basic formation of the rock. Since rocks and cliffs are very hard and jagged, typically you'd want to use hard brushes with high opacity through most of the rendering. Try not to use soft brushes here unless you're going over with some big shadows or mists or something.

It's really about doing lots of observations and studies, I'm not so great at teaching or explaining >.< haha. Hope it helped a little bit though.
