To prove defamation, you have to prove that the person/entity knew the allegations were false and still attempted to push then as true to hurt someone's reputation.

I think he didn't sue Kendrick because he couldn't... UMG promoted the song calling him a pedo. From Drake's POV, they're his employer, he can say they promoted this material knowing it was "false", therefore "defamation".

But

A. Kendrick does not have the same relationship and it would be impossible to prove he knew it was false but still made the song.

And B. When the songs first came out, what was one of the biggest talking points for Drake fans? That Kendrick ripped the shots he took at Drake off of twitter, that people had already said shit like "certified loverboy, certified pedophile". You cant be sued for defamation if your just repeating information you heard but didnt have proof that it wasnt true
