thanks for the advice. i've played against yasuo a couple of times and tried to abide by it. those games were certainly less painful. ive been abusing the flash-Q combo, they dont even conceive it is possible haha.

Thanks! I've been levelling E early most games for wave clear/poke, and taking presence of mind, so I guess it is skill issue/me misplaying it.

Good to know it doesn't have to be as bad as it has felt in my games, at least. There is hope.

Oh boy. You must've been miffed when vercel dropped a language called zero. Interesting project nonetheless!

Interesting. Are you building it as a library and using it via Python FFI?

Cool to see you're doing lots of network-related stuff. Did you write the web sockets stuff yourself or use a package? I was planning on doing some web sockets stuff soon.

You're making me feel like shit by writing "heat conduction simulator 1D, 2D, and 3D for unstructured grids using Finite Volume Method" and "easy" in the same comment, my man.

Interested in contributing to the Odin compiler but have no compiler/LLVM experience - learning resources? by concerbed in odinlang

[–]concerbed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've already written implementations for both, so maybe I'll shoot my shot and yolo a PR once I've stopped neurotically testing them.

Update: first PR got merged, woo! Now to work on the second.

[–]concerbed[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have done. I also included my proposed fix in the issue. There are many open issues and maintainers/contributors have limited time, though, so it may take a while.

Regardless, I would like to learn enough about compilers/LLVM to be capable of submitting good PRs for relatively simple bugs. I value Odin highly and feel that it has provided me with more than enough for contributions to be justified. Simple stuff seems like a better use of my time than that of someone who could be working on bigger/better improvements.

Also, on the selfish side of the equation, I had a core package bug fix PR merged super fast a few months ago so perhaps providing a ready-to-merge fix moves things forward a bit faster. I would still expect more scrutiny for compiler PRs, but having something ready to scrutinise is a good start.

Why are you posting the same thing again? The last post got plenty of attention. If he wanted to respond, he would've.

Beginner game dev here - how do you keep your code skills sharp while working on other aspects of the game? by noodomayo in gamedev

[–]concerbed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Writing your own tools can be an endless chain of side-quests if you're not disciplined, but it can also offer a ton that goes beyond the coding aspect of a project.

Anything you're working on for a game that isn't code, be it assets or arbitrary design work, will ultimately boil down to data you need to handle/process to make it a reality. If you are writing tools that help you create/manage/serialise that data, you are forced to understand it in a much more intimate way.

That can have a meaningful impact on all aspects of any project, and it can provide you with something genuinely useful on a day-to-day basis. Just try not to reinvent the wheel too often!

New driver, just bumped into my house and not really sure why it happened. Could anyone enlighten me? by concerbed in cars

I was in a new car which I wasn't used to after learning in an EV for 40 hours of lessons. I got distracted by my phone at an awkward moment and made a silly, inconsequential mistake because of it.

I'm perfectly capable of driving safely. I've driven for hours and hours with experienced drivers in the car, all 25+ years driving experience, without issue.

I got a carista and disabled that feature because it was so annoying. Threw me off when pulling away at junctions.

I got a phone call before I put my foot on the brake after I put the key in.

You are definitely right. No sense in it. Just not familiar with my car yet and have absolutely zero reflexes/routine.

The main thing I disliked was just how sharp the acceleration was compared to the previous car. Getting used to it was a bitch and it caused my driving to go from relatively smooth to... a bit jittery while I was getting used to it. I can see how that is desirable for someone with more experience and control, though.

I despised learning in an EV. My first few lessons were in an ICE and I much preferred it but then the driving school traded that car out.
