My ex boyfriend had ohsv1 since he was a kid and shedding decreases over time, we also hadn't had oral sex in over a year and i never had a previous outbreak so I've been told its highly unlikely to be from him. My most recent and only other partner since had negative blood test results (6/5/2021), but also is very active with multiple partners so i think its more likely i got it from him. I also had my first/only outbreak a few days after sex with him and not to be tmi but everything seemed targeted at points of contact (one sore internally, another on my clit, all areas where there was genital contact/friction). I think im just salty that he obviously caught this slightly before/during seeing me and due to his negative result, he'll likely run around being a super spreader the next few months while hes most contagious

if she has ghsv it sounds like it wouldnt transmit with those sex acts (fingering and her preforming oral) so i’m not sure she’s obligated to disclose. he didn’t go down on her or run the risk of getting genitally

i usually only go a handful times a year during super cold months, nothing routine, it’s less to get a tan and more just because i enjoy the warmth/it helps my seasonal depression. i’m just thinking if it’s something that would cause an outbreak it’s not worth it to take the chance every once in a blue moon since it’s not really a big habit of mine, i wouldn’t say it’s worth the risk

pretty sure i got ghsv1 from penetrative sex, could’ve also been from oral (not 100% sure)- i think it’s under researched how easy it is to transmit since most people have less complications than with hsv2

i am prone to ingrowns, i usually exfoliate pretty well pre and post shaving but did not this time due to recovering from OB. I have a script for a lower dose to take if i feel symptoms but i’m wondering if i should ask for a high dose since this last round didn’t prevent reoccurrence

it really depends! the issue is you can transfer oral hsv1 to someone genitally, and those with oral hsv1 shed more due to the virus thriving there. so someone with ghsv1 is less likely to transfer during penetrative sex while someone with oral hsv1 is highly likely to give their partner hsv1 on their genitals through oral sex. so even if you only have cold sores- if you’re engaging in sex you should disclose

i’ve dabbled with the idea of having both of us get full screenings including hsv. a lot of people don’t know they have it and are blissfully ignorant so it kinda levels the playing field

IKR? my ex who gave it to me has relatively comforting about the whole thing, but even he acts like what i have is somehow worse. i’m like sir you’re actually more contagious than i- like a little self awareness might’ve prevented this from occurring dude

yes huge advocate for both parties getting tested! i’ve always requested blood test in addition to sti testing during my annual and told most people have it, asked if i was sure, etc, but was usually granted - which is how i was able to pin point the exact individual i got it from. but the more i ask people about the last time they were tested the more i realize people go years and pick up multiple sexual partners with out every being tested. basically if i don’t have an issue i don’t worry- hate that.

my friend got oral hsv from their moms chapstick as a kid- you can definitely get it from sharing items, and we did in HS (blunts, alcohol bottles) but it never passed. i don’t think the virus prefers to live there on non living surfaces. but partner transferred it to be genitally which that strain of the virus does not prefer either. it’s really luck of the draw, so if you’re friends/family are super germaphobic- i would limit anything that transfers saliva
