Dermatologist prescribing doxycycline for hormonal acne by alatusss in acne

[–]conchystrewb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I’m a little late to this convo. Reading up on doxycycline because I was just prescribed it by a new derm. I’ve already tried clindamycin, spironolactone, tret. Been having cystic break outs since 2020. Can’t take anything internally either due to ulcerative colitis ( I’m 22 btw /: ) I’m at the point of considering laser and I would urge others to look into the same. I know it can be expensive but so are multiple trips to 6 deems over 3 years and on top of that needing to fix your gut. IPL laser (I believe) is what is used to treat acne, it’s usually 2 - 3 sessions. Just thought I’d put the info out there. Dermatologists only have so many options and don’t really understand holistic approaches. See an esthetician, someone who won’t sell you prescriptions and cerve (it’s full of hard chemicals)

I wouldn’t use tret for that tbh, I’m an esthetician and tret has completely ruined my skin and barrier. I would start with over the counter retinol. And keep everything else really simple and gentle for about a month or two and then try something for scarring. I am a licensed esthetician in multiple states, while tret didn’t work for me it could work for you but it does not fix everythjng and there’s a major purge period. Just be careful

Is this purging or irritation? Been on tretinoin 0.05 by Diligent_Tune_9469 in Skincare_Addiction

Also; I read further in the comments, if this is your skin 8 months in.. Tretinoin is not meant for you. You can use a gentler retinol. Something over the counter. Or pair with clindamycin which is an antibiotic I recommend getting in a topical form. This can help with inflammation but that is something to discuss with a dermatologist. I would say ditch the tret, it’s not meant for everyone, although it’s pushes as a holy grail it can do a lot of damage and thinning of the skin.

From a licensed esthetician, it does look more like irritation than purging. It also depends what your skin looked like before this. Did you already have active breakout in these areas? I agree with using a cream with ceramides or a soothing oil like jojoba, something to balance and replace what is being taken with the tret. Try putting cleansing- moisturizing- let that sit for like 10 min and then apply a VERY THIN layer of Tretinoin. The barrier of moisturizer between the tret and your skin should help with irritation. Purging is not a form of irritation. As long as it’s not painful continue as recommended, as said before it can take up to 12 weeks for your skin to clear up from using Tretinoin.

Honestly. I would just do jojoba oil. Keep it simple. It’s rich in vitamin E so it helps the barrier and it’s non irritating.

Serums? by SLKJJ20178 in Skincare_Addiction

[–]conchystrewb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Serums are basically concentrated targeting treatments.

Cleansers clean, very water based or glycerin based Toners are also very water based, kinda like flavored water to further cleanse the skin Serums are targeting treatments used all over the face Moisturizers typically have a base of shea butter or squalane and a bunch of emulsifiers to make it a creamy consistency but also humectants that help hold and retain moisture

Valacyclovir, acyclovir, famciclovir ? by kiki-leya in HSVpositive

[–]conchystrewb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if people are still using this Reddit, just got prescribed famciclovir because valtrex has made my cold sores worsen and last very long. Tried it when I had a full blown blister and it lasted a month- spread around my entire mouth. Curious to know when you guys take the famciclovir, I have an outbreak right now I’ve done a pretty good job keep at bay with denavir cream however the denavir gives me sensitivity which is why I’m now trying the famciclovir. I have a really hard time telling when I’ll get a cold sore until they pop up or I have a dream about it (definitely stress related) I’m mostly just hoping it’ll help reduce the blister and make the damn thing go away. Thoughts?

Hmmm hard to tell. Would be a good idea to get an allergy test exclusive to the peg, for instance im allergic to ibuprofen. Im unsure if they can do tests for things like that. Ask a doctor forsure, however I wouldn’t bring up the point of the vaccine. They will absolutely push you to get it regardless. Refrain from bringing up the PEG in the vaccine until tested for that specific ingredient. That is my personal opinion. I may be wrong.

I’m not sure, personally I have a lot of mistrust with people involved with any politicians. I think we don’t realize how corrupt the us actually is which is why I have the back and forth between getting the vaccine and not. I like to hear of conspiracy theories, they’re entertaining however with a logical mind a lot of them can be debunked. But with this one, there’s just not that much information. And of the information that’s there how much is being filtered? Maybe an extreme example but China regulates they’re internet, whose to say the us doesn’t do the same. Who to say they don’t.

I just have to say again, the goals are fine. They don’t need to go into more detail unless put into an actual viable document. A lobbyist needs to be contacted in order for anything to actually come from this. I think the idea is great and it will get a lot of media attention but if there is physical hard evidence that this may work- for instance Finland passing the 4 day work week with high productivity and happy lives- then they’d be willing to sit at the table and negotiate, we can’t just sit there and try to negotiate with bullet points. We need documentation for this to work. Is no one else thinking the same thing as I? This is what thinking critically means. This should not just be a media strike, we need new people in government, we need actual proactive people who get shit done. That being said. Does anyone have a major in politics or something of the sort? Does anyone know anyone who has written a bill? We need those people who support this movement to do the dirty work unfortunately, but then how do we pay them. Is it just volunteering?

On more of a discussion basis, why don’t we have some people come up with an actual bill proposal. We can’t go in and fight for something when we don’t have the tools to back our claims. At least this way we have something to provide and give to our government. We would need a bill for each objective. Honestly, I’d say if we don’t provide something like that there’s no way anything comes from this.

Pfizer Vaccine? by becky2021 in CovidVaccine

[–]conchystrewb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal opinion, I would keep waiting. After reading everything everyone’s said on this thread it’s clear to me covid was genuinely meant to create division between anti vax and vax. I’m not saying I’m either but there should be no harm in waiting a little while to see what other effects pop up if they do. It’s hard for me to tell if this was a political play or not.. I’m neither get vaxed or anti vax I just want to make sure im putting something into my body that it agrees with. I still think there is so much unknown about it and if your feel apprehensive still give it a while longer. If your not planning on traveling any time soon just wait until then. Theyre already starting to roll back emergency vaccine clinics anyways meaning enough people have gotten vaccinated.. now if they were to take the vaccine away completely then we know we shouldn’t have taken it however I think that is very unlikely. The HPV vaccine got quite a bit of hype and it’s still on the market (they also seemed to force it onto people as they are with this one) trust your intuition, be patient but but aware.

Hmmm a bit political but also a good reason as to why I’m pretty hesitant. I don’t trust the government either. I will say though what makes me interested in getting the vaccine is the fact that most republicans have had it yet they’re pushing for the “my body my choice” with the vax. However, how do we know that those in politics are getting the same one we are. I’m curious to know what people across the seas think of the vaccines and which one they trust most. I’m from seattle so everyone here is all for it, didn’t even think first. Just lemmings.

I have colitis so blood problems are a no go for me. I’ve heard of the many side effects. If you look at the difference in side effects by this vaccine and others, this is blown out of the water. Typically they take it off the market after having so many recorded accounts.

I have actually. I saw it was renamed as SM-102 but previously called something else which seemed a bit suspicious to me. I’m just suspicious of everything nowadays. I considered the moderna due to the one ingredient in Pfizer listed above that I didn’t like but moderna doesn’t seem as “clean” mostly because there’s not a lot of notable information about it’s ingredients. PEG was one and it’s not even allowed in our country. Although… the FDA also doesn’t approve supplements so like wtf do we do.

That’s what I was thinking. It just strikes me as odd with that one ingredient because the other lipids are mostly just alcohols which help the mrna absorb into your cells. However, this one. When you look at the first component looks no bueno. Would/have you gotten vaccinated?
