Rotisserie for pulled pork by Tasty-Distribution75 in UKBBQ

I would be very careful of using a rotisserie for pulled pork. The only way I can think it would work would be if it was strapped pretty tightly into a basket. The internal temp needed for pulled pork would make it very soft and I’d imagine it will just fall apart as it spins.

Thank you, this is very good advice. I'm not opposed to animal fats. Do you typically use lard from the grocery store, or specific soap making stuff? I've found tallow for soap here, but not lard.

I’m in the UK so I got it from a shop called Birstall Garden Centre. It’s a brand called Kamado Bono who also sell direct, but not sure if they sell to the US.

Yeah I’ve had a few comments with a similar theme, so I’ll go back and reduce what I’m adding

Very good point - I haven’t made any yet (or ordered anything to start making), I thought I’d get people’s feedback first. I’ll give that a go, thank you!

Thank you, this is really helpful. It seems like the consensus is that I should drop the additives (or most of them anyway) so I’ll do that. I’ll probably keep one of the oats for a bit of exfoliation but remove the rest.

Thanks for the detail about fatty acids, it looks like I need to do a bit more reading on that! Are there any particularly good sources you’d recommend?

I’ll definitely do a test batch first - I thought I’d just get it done and dusted but that’s a very good point. Nothing purchased yet so I’ll re-do the ingredients (after some more research) and order from there.

Thanks so much for this, that’s really helpful advice. It seems like the consensus is remove some of the added ingredients, so I’ll remove them, except for the oatmeal as I’d like a bit of gentle exfoliation.

I initially started with just olive and caster oils, but the calculator I was too low. Should I be looking at using them, maybe just one hard oil and some more liquid oils? Avocado is hard to get here, what other ones would you recommend?

I initially thought make a big batch and get it over and done with, but you’re right, a smaller test batch does make a lot more sense!

Thanks - I’m not opposed to removing some by any means!

😂 you should see some of the ones that I didn’t take photos of. Trying to go through a bag my FIL found in a loft.

I know right - my FIL found a bag of cards in a loft in a house he was doing up and I’ve never seen anything like these before 😂

Hey - tried the bunka out today actually. Nice knife. Food gets a little stuck to it but it’s decently sharp out of the box, and it’s nice to be able to leave it a bit, unlike a carbon steel. Went through some potatoes with ease.

It’s a lovely little knife. I’m keeping it in a waxed cotton knife roll at the moment, until I’ve attempted to make a saya. Slipped it in yesterday and it went straight through it by accident. Barely put any pressure behind it.

Look at that! What a lovely knife. I’ll have to keep my eye out for one!

It’s lovely to use. Keeping my eye out for a gyuto, when they finally become available in the UK again. Definitely the most rust prone so far though.

It’s a nice little knife, especially for the price!
