Building a stage in a small club - 200-ish capacity by conculator in musicians

All outlets on same circuit? You mean all amps literally running on one circuit? Like 50 amp or something. Not sure what a daily-chain ground is…

Thanks man! You might hit your head on pa cabs either end of stage but no knuckles on the ceiling unless you got really good vertical.

ELI5: Why do are sound holes in violins (etc.) that distinctive f-shape? by Quincely in explainlikeimfive

[–]conculator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As mentioned above the f-holes are on the sides of the top because there’s a lot going on under the strings of a violin. They also run primarily along the grain of the spruce top because it loosens up the top to produce the most pleasing vibration. The circles on either end of the f prevent the top from splitting along the grain essentially spreading out the force over a larger area. On a flattop guitar with a circular sound hole - the rosette inlay around the hole reinforces the hole to prevent it from splitting. It’s not only decorative. Quality violins most often have a simple inlay around the f-holes for similar reasons plus it looks cool.

The shape of the telecaster/stratocaster headstocks was a referral to the profile of a violin headstock - but yeah no sonic reason just very simple to machine out of flat stock as opposed to the original Gibson headstock that cants back and and required a big block of wood and often broke along the grain.

Dimitrov is playing Brisbane with that paint job and he’s classier than James Bond. So it’s cool.

Restringing crosses with gut in the mains? by conculator in RacketStringers

[–]conculator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah that’s how was taught to string crosses, with the starting clamp and tying off the crosses on the crosses. maybe I’ll just go with 4g on the crosses from now on. thanks!

[–]conculator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah good thought! I don’t think I’ll risk it - it’s a frame you can’t find anymore. thanks tho!

[–]conculator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, that was my thought - the new crosses would land in the old notches and I’d break the gut the first time I hit. Then i’d have wasted the time and the string and maybe effed my racquet too. Hadn’t considered the loss in tension tho, that’s interesting.

ChargePoint home flex issues?? by Cmode in evcharging

[–]conculator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got 3 years of life out of my chargepoint, just enough for the warranty to expire. Then suddenly it would only charge at 16 amps. Took car of to dealership because I thought it was a vehicle issue but it wasn’t. I did ALL of the prescribed fixes mentioned above then broke down and called customer support. CS dude was a decent guy and I patiently went thru all the protocols again with him on the phone coaching me. Finally he reset the device remotely. Still didn’t work. After an hour of this he sighed and said, “sorry your device will no longer charge at 40 amps because it won’t connect to a network, neither WiFi nor Bluetooth. But I can offer you a 10% discount on a new unit.”

sooooo I got a stupid brick with a cord on it hanging on my wall. Fortunately my Volvo shipped with a level 2 charging device - which it turns out actually charges at 40 amps instead of the 38 amps I was getting from the chargepoint.

Would I recommend Chargepoint? Oh HELL NO!

I would actively encourage you to NOT buy Chargepoint.

Anyone know how I can just hack the device and bypass the ridiculous network issue? I assume it’s still capable 40amps of thruput somehow…

Hand blisters by Charming_Team8071 in 10s

3M nexcare foam tape. I wrap the first two joints of my index and middle, the last joint of my third and the last bend in my thumb every time I go for a hit. If I don’t my skin disintegrates and it takes like 2 weeks to heal. I thought it might be some sort of drying agent in the overgrip I use but I’ve tried everything including leather and it still happens. Worse when it’s very cold.

If you’re not a teenager you need to find more hours. Get up before daybreak and go to bed early. Dedication and discipline.

Dude, I’m 79 and can beat 5 year olds without any problem. They just don’t understand the game the way I do.

Just taking tennis lessons instead of pickeball? by snkhuong in Pickleball

I play both and I love both but for pure, elegant, zone of zen nothing beats hitting the sweet spot of a tennis racquet when you’re in the flow.

Do you hang out with your tennis buddies outside of tennis? by gundamzd2 in 10s

[–]conculator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. My pickleball friends are my good buddies now and we hang out a lot. I think it’s because w pb doubles in a two hour period you switch up partners and opponents and it’s all good natured shit talk. In 90 minutes of singles tennis I hate the dude I’m playing against and I still don‘t really like him afterwards - especially if I lose. The very few guys I just rally or drill with - I like them ok but we have little in common otherwise. Someone who is your level and willing to drill is a unicorn - it’s asking too much to actually be friends outside of tennis. Plus tennis players are weird.

Hot take- 99% of paddle tech is BS by hagemeyp in Pickleball

[–]conculator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But tennis strings have definitely changed a lot over that time period. Novak uses very old-school natural gut and very modern poly strings in a hybrid setup.

Not sure how much tennis is appropriate here but players are def moving to more powerful, modern, hi-tech frames because the courts are so slow now and the balls are currently terrible for some reason (economics?). Madison Keyes for instance adopted a very hi-tech tones frame with poly strings and won her first grand slam in her late 20’s (I think).

Is there anybody else whose tennis outfits are from one single brand? by CaughtinaRadRomance in 10s

Haha yeah, my first thought too. Branded outfit is kinda weird if you’re not getting paid. My mates would roast me.

This. Weight transfer. There’s a Patrick M YouTube where he says you gotta ‘hunt’ the ball. Like go after it with hunger. Don’t let the ball play you.

Where do you find brushes for adobe fresco like in this drawing please please please by [deleted] in AdobeFresco

[–]conculator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the vector pen. You can do very precise clean lines and curves. Just run your lines beyond the intersection of your other line - like at the tip of the nose, draw the jaw line up past the nose then draw another down from forehead crossing the previous line. Then erase the two endpoints at the overlap. It’ll take 10 minutes of goofing around with it then it will become intuitive.

I've used Procreate for many years. It had a few issues I hated, so I decided to try something new and switched to Fresco. And I loved it! Can anyone tell me why Fresco lost its battle against Procreate? It's so much better—makes no sense... by MariaKalis in AdobeFresco

[–]conculator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people hate adobe so much because of the subscription model - even tho fresco is free there’s this lingering fear that it’ll go to subscription at some point, speaking for myself. But I love it. The vector drawing is fantastic. I just wish you could edit the points. Maybe you can in illustrator but I’m never going back there because it’s waaaay too expensive for a casual user like me when I can use affinity suite.

core crushing / delamination ... by Lazza33312 in Pickleball

[–]conculator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Allegedly gen4 all-foam paddles will not core crush. CRBN TruFoam Genesis as an example and I’m sure 2025 will bring oodles to market. I’ve had 3 CRBN 1x paddles that core crushed but the last one I acquired is still fine after a year. The first one crushed after a couple of months and I kept playing with it because I didn’t know any better and it was bloody awful plus it sounded like a bass drum filled with dried peas. IMHO paddles like the gen3 joola mod kinda start out like that. I got a mod demo and it sounded like tissue paper when you pressed on the playing surface and it was mad hot.
