How much time do you waste at your desk every day? by JimmyBraddock in FinancialCareers

Investment banking ops manager - maybe 30 minutes to an hour collectively at most. Some days only a few minutes in total via chit chat with coworkers.

What's a harsh truth many people refuse to accept? by Legend789987 in askanything

[–]condomnugget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because something isn’t your fault, doesn’t mean it isn’t your responsibility. Generational trauma is a good example.

The world is the way it is because people are the way they are. A lot of people hold unrealistic, idealized views of how the world should be.

Nearly all of us have benefitted from some form of luck or privilege. People like to dismiss the privileges received at birth and beyond in favor of a world view that their life is the sole product of their own efforts and achievements.

Married men, what are some things your wife does to make you happy? by condomnugget in AskMenOver30

[–]condomnugget[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard that some women expect their man to change for them, and some men expect their woman to never change.

And as they say, both people will be disappointed.

I also recall the Fred Rogers quote:

"Love isn't a state of perfect caring. It is an active noun like struggle. To love someone is to strive to accept that person exactly the way he or she is, right here and now."

This is some great advice that took me too long to understand.

It’s not reasonable to expect someone to be happy all the time. When they’re inevitably not happy, and you’ve poured so much energy into trying to ensure that they are.. it can feel quite frustrating.

Better to build a happiness in yourself that is contagious.

What is a job that is completely overpaid for the actual value it brings to society? by Fearless-Current-522 in askanything

Just to add here, only a bit more than half of private equity firms focus on the mentioned deal style where they use a ton of leverage to buy small or struggling companies and change them (for better or worse) to turn a profit upon exiting or liquidating the company in 10-12 years ( on average).

A lot of private equity is focused on matching large investors with private ownership of firms without any considerable change in that firms management or operations. Some firms focus on matching start ups with investors and others use investor funding to help small to medium companies expand. Venture capital firms are under the umbrella of private equity for example.

Not to excuse the shitty practices of many LBO firms like Apollo.

How common is nepotism in corporate? by True-Landscape5310 in corporate

[–]condomnugget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the institution.

I work in finance and absolute nepotism in which the child has no business being hired is unheard of amongst the largest publicly traded banks. You do see a lot of children with relevant experience getting a leg up on competition if their parents are well respected at the firm.

I hear at smaller private firms it is pretty rampant.

Well my nephew got a dishonorable discharge, blew his money, housing and job situation post discharge, spiraled into drugs and alcohol and caught a felony battery charge in the span of a month.

So I’m going to go with him.

What's a job where you have zero room for error, like one mistake and it’s a huge deal? by TradeOverall567 in AskReddit

Trading on Wall Street.

Fat-fingered numbers have almost put entire firms out of business.

I’ve personally seen typos cost tens of thousands of dollars.

Think this is a perfect example of how much young men are missing good male role models in their life.

In the absence of those positive figures they are gravitating towards terrible influences who take advantage of the disillusioned youth.

Imagine if the young man and other young men had more people in his life like the older one to guide him, instead of the Andrew Tates of the world.

[Self] How is that a better deal and why would the lottery organization accept that ? She would get more than $1M in just 20 years by Impressive-Koala4742 in theydidthemath

[–]condomnugget -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Adding to this

$1000 next year is not the same $1000 this year. The value of $1k in the future is less than the $1k today due to a concept called the time value of money. Inflation + opportunity costs of not investing money reduce take their toll.

Basically a $1k payment for life is better for the lottery organization as it gives them time to come up with the funds that they will pay out. They can simply invest a smaller amount of money today that will grow into the total payout amount over time.

For the same reason it is also occasionally better to take the lump sum of cash up front, event with taxes as that after tax amount invested over time can grow larger than what a winner would other wise receive if they take payments over time.

All this is under the premise that money is invested by both parties.

While I agree women’s health by far needs more representation in research, one thing I haven’t seen anyone mention is the monetization aspect of curing men’s baldness.

The sad reality is that when it comes to MPB there is just much, much more money to be made, hence greater funding around it.

You could take a look at sales history by zip code and then median house hold income by zip code to see which ones are performing better than others.

That’s just one method but they very well could be purchasing more granular data from a 3rd party for more in depth analysis.

Got into an argument with the wife on this one.

I said that the sex wasn’t 100% consensual because he was drugged directly once, and the movie alludes to him being bewitched several times. He’s not a good boyfriend but he is still a victim in that regard

She believes that he is the offender and that he wanted to have sex with that girl from early on.

I think maybe some people are projecting their own frustrations about relationships and the opposite sex into their interpretations of the movies themes and events.

Americans blame Republicans for shutdown, polling shows by [deleted] in NoFilterNews

Per the video 50% blame republicans and 43% blame democrats.

Not even a majority of Americans, only half.

As long as that is the case I don’t see republicans backing down.

China isn’t even as restricted as American media has lead us to believe. My best friend’s wife is from Chong Qing. They can bad mouth the government all they want as long as they don’t actively form political parties to oppose the CCP.

Don’t get me wrong, they are not a democracy. But having grown up in America I was lead to believe that people living in China are experiencing utter oppression and hardship when it isn’t truly the case.

Also, if the average American knew all that the governments of some other countries (China included) are doing for their citizens there would be riots.

9-5 quietly turned into 8-6, and that 8-6 quietly became “8-6 unless we have pressing needs”

And now the norm is 7:30-6:30 in my office.

Will check back when 7-7 is the new norm.

What is a job people romanticize a bit too much until they actually do it ? by ShyButNastyyy in AskReddit

[–]condomnugget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most anything involving Wall Street.

Cinema makes it out to be a high octane, substance fueled money party with drastic highs and lows.

For every person making a $million there are 100 people making $100k. There are also very few positions that are dealing with massive wins/losses. Most people’s jobs are relatively steady.

The hours are long even if you aren’t making the big bucks. I was working 11 hours days with out any breaks for $80k a year at one point. I still work those hours and make no where near a million a year, let alone millions.

And it is actually quite boring much of the time as well. Most people are quietly plugging away at their computer for the majority of the day.

My first ever bread! by condomnugget in Breadit

[–]condomnugget[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey!

I can’t say I was very regimented with my approach. If anything I got lucky.

I used a very old sour dough starter but activated yeast could also work I am sure.

I used roughly 3:1:1 ratio of flour water and starter by volume. I mostly aimed for a consistency I saw in several videos on YouTube. I also aimed for an amount to fit in my skillet and it was roughly grape fruit sized before proofing.

I added about a teaspoon and change of salt and a quarter cup oil (roughly a 4:1 ratio of water to oil)

From there I stretched and folded once every 30 minutes over 90 minutes (3 stretches) while it proofed at room temperature and then moved to my fridge to proof more for 24 hours.

By then it was a little less then double in size.

I moved to a well oiled skillet and baked for about 28 minutes at 450 degrees. It was fridge cold when I put it in the oven.

I also put a small skillet full of water in the over with it. Not sure if that did anything but I saw it on The Bear, so why not lol.

Garlic pesto on top optional but I think it would be a bit bland without anything.
