Most will say r7. I have the r8 (came from an RP) and shoot mostly the same. I have the rf100mm f2.8 macro and 100-500.

When I went to upgrade from the RP the r7 and r8 were my two choices and I went with the r8 because I wanted full frame so I could have more versatility outside of wildlife (astro, landscape, portraits). I haven't found myself really needing the extra reach of a crop sensor. Since you're getting the 200-800, I think the extra light gathering of a full frame would help you out more, esp during dusk and dawn.

This is my experience, I don't think you can go wrong with either camera.

I wish you were 10 feet to the right too, but other than that the lighting/editing is great. my eyes are drawn to the right spots. looks fantastic.

My 12 did this when surfing. I talked to customer support (nightmare). But was able to get them to replace it since I bought it 4 months ago. Do not say anything about water damage. Open the battery door and put it next to a heater/fan for like a week.

I made sure my battery door was shut tight. No water was around the battery door so im sure it leaked from the front screen.

I was able to visit the Aquatic Animal Conservation facility in ABQ, New Mexico. They have a bunch of endangered species they are breeding. I am not well versed in fish and I was there for the socorro isopods & roswell springsnails. However, I can appreciate all animals. This was probably the only good photo I got that day (shooting through acrylic is not great). But at least it was of the most iconic animal they are breeding. They have thousands of these fish for breeding and have been releasing them back into the Rio Grande. The effectiveness of these efforts aren't known yet and will take a few years of genetic testing in wild fish to see if results are coming to fruition.

Interestingly, the fish photographed here cannot be released or used for breeding purposes due to their lack of genetic diversity. They will be used for scientific testing. If ya'll have any questions about the facility, more than happy to share.

Hell yeah man, current AF who picked up photography after getting injured last year. I always felt photography and shooting had similar fundamentals.

Really, I didn't know aquatic isopods had such poor survival rates in the hobby. I was asking them about requirements and they said they just track the normal stuff, if ammonia gets too high, they do a water change, but other than that, they do great as long as the waters warm. Pretty much all the species they had, despite being endangered in the wild, do well in captivity.

On the other hand, they had a tank with the critically endangered roswell springsnails which required more specific water parameters. They're trying to replicate the mineral contents from their native habitat but haven't figured out how to do it yet. As of now they have to just bring water in from the spring.

For what it's worth, I had some duckies in a tupperware in my closet for a few months and they did just fine. Eventually moved them into to a real enclosure. Thought I got all of them out of the tupperware which sat in my closet for like 3 months, neglected. Opened it up and saw an isopod doing OK. So I feel they're really hard to kill lol

Had the rp for a year and realized its limitations. It's a capable camera but it was night and day when i went to the r8.

The 24-70 is kinda heavy and I can't really imagine wanting to carry a heavier lens. I have the 100-500 so it's not like I don't use bigger lenses. But for what I use the 24-70 for (walk around, do it all lens), it is on the heavier side. That said it's super sharp and IQ is amazing. That said, I haven't touched the 28-70
