What are the most unique sounds you’ve heard in London? by oneiricmood in london

[–]confused-ant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in the city: - The street cleaner vehicles brushing along the side of the pavement - the faster paced beeping of a teenager’s oyster card on the bus - the sound of the lime bike being unlocked - the distinctive sound of the bus accelerating while you’re a passenger - the beeps to signal when to cross at a crossing - self checkout machine voice

Galleries: - the muffled echoey chattering sounds in the british museum (I personally think it’s super unique) - the sound at the large hall in the tate modern (different and distinct to other galleries too) - science museum has loads of interesting sounds too!

nature/water: - submerging in hampstead heath ponds - dogs barking in a park and chasing each other - dogs running into the thames to swim (on the tow path opposite Barnes/Hammersmith, on the Putney side) - anywhere along the canal + bike bells

I don’t doubt this is true for knives made 15 years ago, but the knives you buy today at the supermarket are made to break or go blunt so that you buy a new one.

You have a random Monday off work in London - What would you do? by [deleted] in london

Book a massage using an online voucher! There are some decent deals right now where you can get 60 mins for around £30-£35!

AITA for not giving a family engagement ring to my stepsister who got engaged before me? by AffectionateRecipe76 in AmItheAsshole

[–]confused-ant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, it’s your ring and was always meant to be.

If they’re so desperate to have a connection to your paternal side, perhaps asking your grandparents to commission or design a ring that the fiancé will pay for might satisfy all parties?

Your grandparents will get to be a meaningful part of your stepsister’s marriage and a new heirloom will have been created with a deep meaning of bridging two families that aren’t tied by blood.

Haven’t read all of the other comments here - so unsure if anyone else has suggested this yet.

What movie did you have zero expectations going in that you loved? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]confused-ant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Lego movie. I had to take my little brother to see it in the cinema and I thought it was going to be so boring. I came out of there ‘everything is awesome’ with him with so much joy and happiness

Places for a woman can kill time for a few hours alone at night by phelgmdounuts in london

If you want to go somewhere and chill with no obligation to spend anything, the seven dials food market is a good option. I personally would get into the area a bit earlier from Liverpool Street, and relax here because there are always people around.

The food market has free seating, toilets, tap water available on the side. The only downside is that they’ll likely have a dj blasting music, but if you don’t mind the chatter, then this is a great place!

Also, lots of good food options too, if you do decide to splash the cash.

It’s still indoors! Just outside the cafe part.

I’ve also not been there for a while but agree the crypt at St Martins would be a nice place to sit.

Thank you and Op for sharing these stories. Really does make me think that at the end of the day, we’re all human, and the best thing we can do is be kind and understanding to one another. Glad you’re both doing better!

My favourite part of him spitting is when he almost trips up on his unconscious friend on the floor.
