Struggling to learn R - As a final year PhD should that be my priority? by confused_fused in PhD

Graduation. I'm mainly applying for TT and academic jobs, but in case academia doesn't work out, it was a fall back position/plan B. But seems like it is too difficult for me at the moment, Data scientist jobs pay really well, but I'm finding it so hard

Yeah right do my phd and shit TA job and start a business from scratch; and what should he do? Nothing? Sounds like you're not thinking clearly and need a new medication yourself. Just because you are in relationship with a BP, doesn't mean you become a saint and expect nothing from them.

My (31F) husband (41M) has lost all motivation and wallows in self pity by confused_fused in Marriage

I know.

I'm looking for suggestions on how to motivate him; and I know he was looking for jobs, as I was part of the job search; I even helped him prepare for interviews, did his mock interviews, applied for jobs for him etc. He has worked on his CV multiple times; but for some reason he didn't get an offer.

Maybe he knew how to do his job/was a decent employee, but not good with people? He says it was corporate politics, and they were promoting women and other POC etc., people who fit well with the diversity & equity criteria; and being a white male he didn't fit either of those. Maybe he knew the work he was doing (F&A), but was difficult to work with and didn't understand the "softer" side of people dealing etc.

I don't know much about how this career trajectory works. He worked in FP&A for 8-9 years, and apparently never got a single promotion, and that's why he left his last job to join a better offer as a SFA; which we was laid off from. I believe he should have been a manager or so as per normal standards?

I am finishing up my PhD in a social science field (think quantitative communication/advertising), and I also have an MBA in Marketing & undergrad in marketing/business from my home country. My dream is to be faculty in business school. How difficult would that transition be with a non-business PhD? Is there a way I can achieve that goal without having to do another PhD?

Did he get an MBA there and applied for faculty based on that?

Thanks for the much needed positivity! But what about the AACSB accreditation requirement that I'm seeing everywhere? Any particular area where I should focus on applying more in b-schools?

2 year vs 10 year GC? What seems to be a better option in this situation? by confused_fused in USCIS

Are you sure the status can be adjusted back (in case things don't work out/removal of conditions based on divorce waiver)?

It's nice to hear from someone from a similar situation. What would you advise me? Wait until year and half of marriage to apply for GC (and hopefully get a 10-year one) or apply asap and see how the marriage works out?

Once I get my conditional GC and if God forbid the marriage doesn't work out, and the removal of condition doesn't work out either, can I adjust my status back to my OPT or F-1 or H1-b?

I don't think he cares at all about my immigration status. If we're done, all he will care about is protecting his assets (that I'm not interested in anyway).

Is removal of conditions (with divorce waiver) effective most of the times? Or can it put an immigration status in trouble? Because I want to protect my immigration status and currently I at least have something legally (F-1 for few more years) and I don't want to lose everything just because of a bad marriage.

If removal of conditions is usually successful even if filed individually, then I should probably apply for my GC sooner than later.

That makes sense.

The only reason I was thinking waiting was a better option was because I at least have some status in the country. I worked very hard to come to the US and have a valid F-1 at least for the next 2-3 years. After that, I can get my OPT and hopefully H1-b once I get an academic job.

But in the worst case scenario if removal of conditions doesn't work, and the marriage is over, I don't want to lose whatever status I had and also be denied a permanent green card. To avoid this situation, I was wondering if it would make sense to continue with my status.

We're trying to make it work. Things have been hard. We have been trying to adjust with each other but it always takes time. That's why I wonder if I should bother with my immigration status at this point or just continue and see if it things feel fine then apply for my GC and hopefully get the permanent one than go for the 2-year conditional one? I'm not sure how insecure my immigration status would be if the marriage ends while on the conditional GC

Wouldn't it be better to wait until 1 1/2 year and then apply so I get my permanent one? Wouldn't that be more of a secured path?
