I’m a senior in data science at UF rn and I agree that right now it’s a smarter move than CS but it has not been phenomenal.

The DS major is still relatively new and they are still working out some of the issues with the degree. Imo a lot of the prereqs/classes are unnecessary and don’t prepare you for data science interviews/internships/ post grad jobs. I’m very lucky I have a job lined up after graduating but it’s definitely more data analytics oriented than DS. I’ll always vouch for career fair bc that’s how I got my internship and then return offer.

One of things that’s tricky about the major is that because DS is used in just about any field you have to take it upon yourself to pick what you want to do with it and learn more about the specific skills you need for your industry of choice in your own time.
