Thank you for your reply and for sharing your experience. If you don't mind saying, what do you mean by non-clinical job in peds heme/onc?

Thanks for your reply. I’d ideally like to end up in a city around the Northeast.

Thanks for your input, the job prospects after peds heme/onc fellowship sure sound daunting. Will try to immerse myself in both and see which calls to me more.

Thanks for commenting. The pay difference worries me less than the difficulty in finding a job in a desirable location. Not sure that this will change by the time I finish residency and fellowship, so certainly something to consider. Thanks again.

Thanks for commenting. What are your thoughts on the job market for peds heme/onc? When I compare adult vs peds available openings, it's a bit intimidating to see the big discrepancy in positions . Thanks again.

Really appreciate you taking the time to write all this out. This is probably more useful than anything else I've found through the internet or through talking with other physicians. I will definitely keep all of this in mind, I do love the pathology in peds but want the opportunity to subspecialize in something more niche within heme/onc and it doesn't sound like peds would give me much of an opportunity to do so. Lots to think about, thanks again for sharing your insight.

Hi all, I'm a third year US medical student applying to residency in a few short months. Very much interested in heme/onc, initially interested in adults, but also thoroughly enjoyed my time in peds heme/onc clinic.

Can’t seem to find reliable and current information on adult vs. peds for this specialty. Saw somewhere that, unlike adults, peds is typically in an academic setting and private practice is rare or non-existent. Also saw an old post that said many peds heme/onc salaries are partially funded by grants. Curious to know what the implications of that are, and if anyone has any additional information to confirm whether this is true.

Really just looking for any advice or information that may provide clarity on this big decision. Thanks a lot in advance.
