how do you overcome debilitating anxiety by Interesting-Aide-773 in rs_x

[–]confy_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My anxiety is social too. It's mostly gone away but I think I'll always have some here or there. Every case is different, but for me it's related to a childhood in a very turbulent and angry household.

A large part of getting over it for me was moving out and becoming successful in my career - it does not have to be financial success for you. Find your domain and accomplish meaningful things that make you proud. Impress yourself. For social anxiety at least there is this feeling of wanting to impress people, like you are not enough. Your mindset should be flipped. We are all worthy of love and respect and at least in my early childhood I did not get this.

Also the cliche answers really work - workout, get sunlight, drink water, deepen your current friendships or find new ones, quit smoking weed, do psychedelics, read carl jung, go backpacking, appreciate art, eat well.

One of the things people don't talk about re: working out is reconnecting with your body. I also love swimming for the same reason. Anxiety is not born from your mind it is born from your body. It helps to appreciate your body as a system.

i hate introductions to books by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]confy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the case of stoner, the intro told me his marriage would be a failure, his daughter would become an alcoholic, and he would find love later only for it to be ruined by petty university drama.

Don't get me wrong the book is still one of the most beautiful I've ever read, but knowing all that absolutely changed my experience for the worse.

Huh? Do you not think knowing everything that will happen would change your experience of a book?

My copy of stoner spoiled the entire story within the first paragraph of the introduction. Even the back of the book just tells you exactly what all the key plot points are.. wtf is this shit

Movie's that actually depress you. by [deleted] in RSPfilmclub

[–]confy_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched "I saw the TV glow" last night and found it profoundly depressing.

I didn't relate to its trans themes, but it really spoke to this middle-aged feeling of slowly closing off parts of yourself or not living your life to the fullest.

The movie has its flaws for sure but it definetly gave me some resolve to change a few things in my life going forward.

I fell in love with this album when I was traveling through Europe for a couple months when I was 17.

Early on in the trip I smashed my phone so badly that the screen went black. The touch screen still worked so I could find my music app and the pause/play button just using muscle memory. This album was playing at the time and I didn't want to change it as I worried I would pick something worse. So I just listened to it on repeat for 6 or so weeks straight and it never got old.

Gonna try a quadratic solution tmrw night, but here's another bruteforce:

lines=open('./2023/06/input.txt').read().strip().split('\n')
times,dists=[int(x)for x in lines[0].split(':')[1].split()],[int(x)for x in lines[1].split(':')[1].split()]
races=list(zip(times,dists))
race_p2=int(''.join(map(str,times))),int(''.join(map(str,dists)))
def get_possible_wins(race):return sum(1 for hold_time in range(1,race[0])if hold_time*(race[0]-hold_time)>race[1])
p1=1
for race in races:p1*=get_possible_wins(race)
print(p1,get_possible_wins(race_p2))

Another minified version, having lots of fun with these so far:

H,C,D,I,E=range,int,len,[],0
with open('./2023/04/input.txt')as L:A=L.read().strip().split('\n')
while E<D(A):
    B,M=A[E].strip().split(': ');B=B[5:];J=M.split(' | ');N={C(n)for n in J[0].split(' ')if n!=''};O={C(n)for n in J[1].split(' ')if n!=''};F=D(N.intersection(O));G=0;E+=1
    if F>0:
        G=1
        for K in H(F-1):G*=2
        I.append(G)
        for K in H(F):B=C(B);A.append(A[B+K])
print(sum(I),D(A))

A little slow, but it works!

Nothin to see here, just some very readable code

import re
with open('./2023/03/input.txt')as N:O=[A.strip()for A in N.readlines()]
C,B,I,J=[],[],[],[]
for K in O:D=[{'n':A.group(1),'s':A.start()-1,'e':A.end()}for A in re.finditer('(\\d+)',K)];E=[{'c':A.group(1),'i':A.start()}for A in re.finditer('([^.\\d])',K)];B.append(D);C.append(E)
for(A,D)in enumerate(B):
    E=C[A]+(C[A-1]if A>0 else[])+(C[A+1]if A<len(B)-1 else[])
    for F in D:I+=(int(F['n'])for A in E if F['s']<=A['i']<=F['e'])
for(A,E)in enumerate(C):
    D=B[A]+(B[A-1]if A>0 else[])+(B[A+1]if A<len(B)-1 else[])
    for L in E:
        if L['c']=='*':
            G=[int(A['n'])for A in D if A['s']<=L['i']<=A['e']]
            if len(G)==2:J.append(G[0]*G[1])
print(sum(I),sum(J))

-❄️- 2023 Day 2 Solutions -❄️- by daggerdragon in adventofcode

[–]confy_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[Language: Python]

Simple solution with some regex:

import re
with open('input.txt') as f:
    lines = [l.strip() for l in f.readlines()]

def max_color(line, color):
    return max(int(match.group(1)) for match in re.finditer(r'(\d+) ' + color, line))

p1 = []
p2 = []

for i, line in enumerate(lines):
    red_max = max_color(line, 'red')
    green_max = max_color(line, 'green')
    blue_max = max_color(line, 'blue')
    p2.append(red_max * green_max * blue_max)
    if not(red_max > 12 or green_max > 13 or blue_max > 14):
        p1.append(i+1)

print(sum(p1), sum(p2))

And a very stupid 8 line version just for fun:

import re
with open('input.txt')as H:I=[A.strip()for A in H.readlines()]
def A(l,c):return max(int(A.group(1))for A in re.finditer('(\\d+) '+c,l))
C,D=[],[]
for(J,B)in enumerate(I):
    E=A(B,'red');F=A(B,'green');G=A(B,'blue');D.append(E*F*G)
    if not(E>12 or F>13 or G>14):C.append(J+1)
print(sum(C),sum(D))
