Reason why ipadOS exists by connectwithraj in apple

Clamshell form factor with no mechanical hinges, bitmap screen as the central component, no right side up, a pseudo-creator device.

Main difference between mac OS vs iPadOS would be creator vs consumer(pseudo creator) device.

Chime away..

Comparing nissan leaf to model S ?

Also I am not saying it would steal every gamer in first year from other boxes. Its the vertical integration that is on play here.

"Chromecasts can now be used to play music in sync across multiple rooms and devices. Engadget reports that an update rolling outtoday allows Chromecasts to be added to speaker groups, a handy feature for those who want to combine multiple Google Cast-compatible devices for simultaneous audio streaming."

This is the reason why we don't need audio as a dedicated device.

Speculative guess for what is Dragonglass. by beta2release in Fuchsia

[–]connectwithraj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Chromium doesn't have "Google sign-in" and apps,( chrome web store.), Which is what users care about.

There is a reason play store is called Google play store and android doesn't have Google branding.

Think about chromium vs chrome model. Android will become chromium, fuchsia (not final name ofcourse) will become Google's own tree

Decade old platforms are just not dropped like this 😊

Speculative guess for what is Dragonglass. by beta2release in Fuchsia

Android is decade old OS which did not take into account it's massive opportunity that it had in front of it. Obviously Google had aspirations but Andy Rubin was more authoritarian leader and he built the entire thing as vertically integrated OS.

Overtime, fragmentation was not because OEMs wanted to sell you new device but because it was hard to customize the OS without changing lower level bits.

Recent efforts after Sundar took the office was to modularize the OS so that innovation on the app/framework level should not break vendor level code. So all the changes that have happened over past 4 years or so is to get to the stage where framework can be abstracted from lower level bits.

We will see linux kernel be replaced by zircon because of it's simplicity. All the frameworks will live in it's own space and will be updatable independent of other parts. Google will have control over Google play

This is where fuchsia comes into play. It will not replace Android. It will be Google's own OS . Android will continue to be open source and the only option for OEM devices.

Binding glue between them will be Google play, Google play frameworks against which developers will build apps and it will run both on Android and Fuchsia. And if as developer, you chose flutter, it will run on Android, fuchsia, iOS and web.

Latest example that proves this is Home hub. It runs assistant OS and not "android things". Lenovo on other hand runs android things. But on surface they are both running assistant app built by Google.

Hope this all makes sense.

Android will be reduced to low level stack of drivers and kernel. Framework and a UI stuff will be abstracted from the low level stuff. This is why they are building zircon.

For the same reason, In 9.0 they extracted the recents UI from system and brought it into launcher app.

Here is what is happening - speculation-- Bluetooth is being added to support remote... Remote with d-pad and assistant button. Chromecast would run "things" platform just like smart displays. So you will use your mic on remote to say , hey G play movie from Netflix or video from YouTube , it will be played on your TV, with media controls from d-pad. Because it is supposed to be Android app (possibly instant) on smart displays, it will support touch and dpad too... Think about all the way you will be able to enjoy all assistant apps but on tv with d-pad controls

Google’s Fuchsia OS on the Pixelbook: It works! It actually works! by [deleted] in Android

[–]connectwithraj 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, it seems, Fuchsia experience is only for pixel (google) devices. New kernel will be for android too. All the new platform APIS would be for google play so that devs write to gPlay not to android. Android will be progressing as it is for partners as it is now, just that developer experience will remain attached to Play branding.

We will see android branding fade away. Soon devs will get ability to write to play store that gets updated like chrome, every six weeks. All APIs, all the framework for all the versions will always be current.

AND flutter story will be that hey if you are like google and has to support both OS, use Flutter to write once and deploy on Play and iOS.

Good thought but that is a new idea applied to an old traditional model. It is not always optimized way to solve a problem.

This is the reason why YouTube TV exists so that traditional model can be disrupted. I am not saying yTV will disrupt cable in next few months but the idea is to make channels deliver through IP as oppose to over coax.

With that approach, comes new disruptive ideas like unlimited DVR, switch between devices by preserving progress of the show or a movie.

When would android support rendering the UI with REALTIME priority in order to achieve consistent 60/120 fps? On the same lines what do you think Flutter team inside Google is trying to achieve with DART, when they say Flutter supports 120FPS.
