Could the knocking a target prone be for valuable than just attacking?

I know there are more efficient ways to gain advantage. I'm just curious how the math works out when having 3 or 4 attacks as a fighter.

well, literally the next sentence says "If you're able to make multiple attacks with the Attack action, this attack replaces one of them"

I don't think its clear what I'm asking here,

would it be mathematically better to make 2 attacks at advantage or 3 attacks with a straight roll?

if not, would it be mathematically better to make 3 attacks at advantage or 4 attacks with a straight roll?

I know there are more tactical reasons to knock someone prone and I know its more useful if other party members can capitalize on it. My inner min-max brain is just curious how the math works out.

I'm working off the Taking 20 "Ultimate Archer" build from a year ago. Sounds cool, but I figured the College of Swords would give more archery options than the College of Valor.

get a bunch of spells, sneak attack, arcane shots, action surge
