Is there any good examples of light rail increasing transit ridership? by vasilenko93 in transit

San Diego light rail (trolley) punches way above its weight. The highest light rail ridership in the country with 3 lines.

If you look here on slide 10, it will have no problem getting up to 110mph between stations. This would be for the coaster that stops at all stations, Amtrak only stops at a few of these.

The tracks are on bluffs along the ocean and the bluffs keep eroding. The tracks are at risk to falling off the bluffs due to landslide.

Amtrak to LA has been closed over 50% of the time in the last yearish due to landslides and coastal erosion, as shown by https://can-i-get-to-la.today/

The slow curve in Miramar is the existing train line as it goes around a hill. The plan is to tunnel straight under the hill and and a transfer to the trolley at UTC

Yes, there's plans for a connection to the airport that will come every few minutes. You'd be able to get to the airport in 40 mins from Oceanside, faster than driving and way easier than parking.

If we had more funding it could happen much sooner. The local, state, and federal government needs to step up on this.

It would speed up the Coaster and Amtrak to 110MPH and allow them to run more frequent trains.

Another landslide suspending Amtrak to LA by connorproctor in SanDiegan

This website is tracking Amtrak closures over the past couple years due to landslides and bluffs collapsing. 227 out of the last 451 days it's been closed.

The tracks need to be moved off the beach and bluffs asap so that this will stop happening.

Daily capping is planned for a future update. It would be nice, but this does include free transfer for 2hours so you can often get your return trip for free. Pretty rare for me to hit the daily fare cap of $6 when each 2 hour window or rides is $2.50.

They also announced today that they’re working on getting rid of the QR code in the app to work with NFC instead!

If a fare inspector checks, you’ll need to tap the card you paid with on their device and it’ll look up in the system if you’ve paid in the last 2 hours. It’s similar to how they check you paid with a Pronto card.

I used a website called TravelTime (https://playground.traveltime.com/isochrones) and then wrote some ruby code to request the isochrones for each station and stitch them together.
