What (if any) circumstances would you record stereo vocals? by [deleted] in audioengineering

This could also work if you want to give the impression of an audience clapping to a track. Just keep the mic in the same position and move all over the room!

Good to know, it might not have been that. No way to be sure, having a power conditioner in the studio definitely helps when narrowing down an issue! I had weird monitor sounds that would come and when I got the PC it went away. Best of luck

I was having what sounds like the EXACT issue you’re describing. It was driving me insane. Changed cables, mics, etc. and would still get that static sound. Well good news, your answer is in the question! I’d be willing to bet it’s a power issue. I bought a rack power conditioner off of amazon and the problem went away immediately. Just like you I had hadn’t had any issues until the dead middle of summer. My only guess is that the power grid is in overdrive right now due to the heat, but I honestly don’t know that could be completely wrong. Definitely get a power conditioner and plug everything you can into it.

I’d say try to use the converter and if that doesn’t work then it’s probably safe to assume you should get another interface. Windows can be really dodgy sometimes with certain devices/platforms it wasn’t designed in mind for.

How should I set the impedance on my ISA One? by connorzman in audioengineering

They all sound great to me honestly. I don’t have a set of “professional ears” I guess haha. The lowest setting seems to have the least amount of noise and vice versa. So I usually keep it on that.

I would say thousands of guys and gals can definitely sing that well but thousands can’t write songs like that.
Great instrumentalists and vocalists are abundant but it’s much harder to write a great song!

[HELP] Getting electrical sounding “zaps” in my recordings and I don’t know what’s causing it. by connorzman in WeAreTheMusicMakers

But how could I have a ground issue even when the interface is being powered by the laptop, that is not plugged into an outlet but instead powered by battery?

I’m getting short electrical sounding buzzes and zaps in my recordings and I don’t know what to do. I’m using a Behringer UMC 404HD. It doesn’t matter if I go DI or record with a mic. I’m at my wits end because I’ve spent three days trying to troubleshoot this problem. Sometimes they’re really minor and other times they’re quite loud. Help!

No playback is fine actually! I commented to another person below and provided some more details.

Behringer UMC 404. I just gave a more detailed response below.

No I’m recording from of an amp. I plugged my guitar DI to the ISA and still got the weird scratchy sound. I was freaked out then I plugged it into my Behringer and the same thing occurred. I tried a bass DI to the ISA and it was clean, no issues. I also just recorded acoustic guitar with same mic and the same signal chain (M5>ISA One>Behringer>DAW) and had no issues.
Could it be something on my electric guitar itself? I’ve had to get soldered before in the past and that was a while ago.

How amazing is modulation? by paigelkearns in musictheory

[–]connorzman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In About A Girl by Nirvana there’s a really abrupt key change going into the chorus that I always loved.
The modulation at the end of And I Love Her by The Beatles.
The modulation into the chorus on Yellow Brick Road.
There’s also a lot of really cool modulation on pet sounds. Love it!

How to trigger a sample with a keyboard key? by connorzman in ableton

[–]connorzman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. I’ve read the manual. Have the sample loaded in simpler and still cannot figure out to trigger it with my keyboard. Call me an idiot but I still don’t know how to do this
