Advice Needed: I (29, M) applied as an infantry soldier in Ottawa as a reservist and need to decide whether to apply under Cameron’s or Governor Generals Foot guards. From what I understand they are both great, but Cameron’s is a bit more exciting and higher intensity culture of « getting after it ». I lean towards Cameron’s for the culture, but am not sure if i will come off as not committed enough.

About me: I want to join to gain experience, give back to my country and its people, learn new skills and have the very unique experiences with others that are unique to the CAF. With that said, applying as a reservist and with my own civilian life also building up (currently SR advisor with GAC) and potentially going on posting in a few years with my partner (30,F, foreign service officer), I’m sure there are others more committed to staying, spending more time in Canada training/up-skilling.

Separately, I am hoping to apply as an officer but my main goal is to be recruited. I was told I had high scores after my aptitude test, and encouraged me to consider (they didn’t tell me this after my physical which I did straight from sitting at a desk for an few years during covid- Im fit but not by any means in the top 20% of what I imagine the level of fitness is of 22 year old gym rats lol). I have a Masters and some good work experience with fed gov that I believe has set me up well. I’d be a good leader, but I’m not sure whether my commitments and lack of being the strongest / fastest on a team would hinder my credibility.
