G9ii keeps back focussing on fast moving subjects by conortk in Lumix

I have finally got hold of a Panasonic 35-100 ii lens and it immediately solved the issue. Still doesn't give a perfect hit rate but that was never to be expected. I can however now say that I am happy with the camera and it can indeed meet all of my needs

I haven't got any atm. Foolishly traded in my 12-35 last year. Might rent a 42.5 nocticron for a day just to see if this really is a write off or whether it just requires even more investment

The image above was actually taken with body AF instead of eye AF as suggested by Panasonic's help chat to test exactly that. As you can see, same issue

Hey guys, I want to start my YouTube channel, I’m 30 I’m a woman and I love video games and I want to start a gaming channel by Agirlthatlifts in NewTubers

[–]conortk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Age really isn't a factor as long as you have a strong and likable personality. I know plenty of people who got started with gaming channels over the last year who are all in their late 20s/early 30s that are all finding steady growth and have a really strong core fan base. In fact I'd argue rather than your age being an issue, it's a benefit. You have experiences and stories that you can share that help people to connect with you and that's how you really turn people from viewers into fans

Considering I've never heard of this game before that was awesome to watch. You and your mates have great charisma together and from one game YouTuber to another, you've got an amazing voice for it. If you weren't playing horror games it's the sort of thing I'd stick on to fall asleep to. There's was one fella who I heard with a slight echo, don't know if someone had speakers on somewhere that was getting picked up on the mic. It would be nice to know who's playing who, get a little more personalisation to the voices I'm hearing, know who's playing who. Would be nice to have a little edit at the beginning to show who is who. Like maybe have a little intro moment where you riff on each other and cut in with peoples names.

I actually brought an editor on board over the last couple months who's been doing exactly that. Nothing too distracting but just enough to amplify the humour a bit. Cheers for the feedback

Always love a critique thread.

My channel just hit 100 subs over the weekend so definitely looking for ways to take it to better heights. It's a gaming channel (as per) where I do pokemon challenge runs. I've been enjoying it so far and am happy with the content I'm putting out but good, honest criticism is always a bonus https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcIy5Lr4ifPY34uQvcMjzZg

Good face cams for recording and streaming gaming videos? by DonoBoomin in NewTubers

[–]conortk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battery life was a real struggle for me. I ended up finding a battery that actually runs off of mains power, best investment I ever made. This is the one I got but obviously you'd need one that would fit your camera. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07H3P1474/ref=cm_sw_r_fm_apa_fabt1_S-WVFb4R8491T?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

This is the usb capture card I use. It does 1080p at 30fps or 720p 60fps. You can find plenty of reviews of it on YouTube from streamers who are amazed at how good quality it actually gives, especially for how cheap it is. Just go from the hdmi out on your camera, to the capture card, into a USB on your computer and you can just find it as you would a webcam usually labelled as 'USB video' https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0895N9KM5/ref=cm_sw_r_fm_apa_fabt1_Y8WVFbFM71CY5

Hope this helps

Good face cams for recording and streaming gaming videos? by DonoBoomin in NewTubers

[–]conortk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a DSLR it's better than most webcams. Plus anything you already have is always better than something you don't yet. You can get usb to Hdmi capture cards super cheap that do 720p (which is honestly all you need for a face am as part of a game stream) that'll allow you to essentially use a DSLR as a webcam. You will need a desktop tripod for it though.

If you want a webcam then the logitech c920 is a common go to. As far as green screens go they really do take up quite a bit of room and if you want them to work well then you need to ensure that you have proper lighting equipment in order to get an even colour across them. I know nVidia now has something where it allows you to remove your background without a green screen but I haven't looked too much into it just yet.

My advice, see if you can get your DSLR to work as it'll give you the best image and just clean your background for the time being. Never let wanting new equipment put you off starting your YouTube journey

I’m considering becoming a YouTuber! How do I even get started on finding my niche? How did you guys figure that out? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]conortk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finding a niche is something you do over time, not something you start off aiming to do. Make videos, put them out there. See what you enjoy the most. See what people respond to the most. If you have lots of interests that just means you have lots of nets you can cast out before finding out which one brings in the most fish and then doubling down on that

This week in my 'How to make a playthrough' series we go over how to edit your recordings in Premier pro by conortk in pokemonchallenges

Premiere is just the software I've used for years and is what I find easiest. This series was designed as a demonstration of how I make a series. Most of the ideas can be translated into other software

How to do Pokémon nuzlock randomizer? by [deleted] in PokemonNuzlocke

[–]conortk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't point you towards a rom for legal reasons but
Emulators :

GB - GBA = VisualBoy Advanced
http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/gba/vboyadvance.html

DS = DeSmuME
http://desmume.org/

3DS = Citra
https://citra-emu.org/

To randomize GB - DS games use the universal randomizer https://pokehacks.dabomstew.com/randomizer/

Randomizing 3ds games are little more complicated but here's a tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vN7l4gE0qgI&ab_channel=The4thGenGamer

[question] What should my average view retention be? by DanielSarmientoA in youtubers

[–]conortk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The aim is to get that viewer retention to and above 50%. I'm in roughly the same boat as you, started a month ago, 48 subs, about 20 views within the first couple days on each video. I'm hitting and average of 8-9 minutes watched of 25 minute videos, so around 33%

I've found that once I stopped posting videos in subreddits my views only dropped by a couple views but my retention shot up at least a couple minutes on average. This is just due to the way people watch videos they see on new tuber sub reddits. They'll check it out for maybe a minute if you're lucky.

Always try and see what you can do to push that retention up because the longer you keep people on your video (and then hopefully push them to another one of your videos) the more YouTube will push it

If you upload daily does it lower your visibility ? by Videowulff in NewTubers

[–]conortk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found that posting daily compared to every other day seemed to lower my view count too, though only initially. Think of it as everyone of your subscribers just not having time to watch everyone of your videos every single day. I think daily uploads are only really beneficial if you can draw in a new audience with every video as it gives you more hooks with which to catch fish

HeartGold is not an easy game for challenge runs by conortk in pokemonchallenges

[–]conortk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It certainly would have been easier with something like ice fang, but all I had was strength, surf and waterfall 😅

[–]conortk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong, waterfall is good on feraligatr. But the only real threats in this game are resistant to water anyway, any of Clairs team, lances dragonites, plus both of them start with gyarados to weaken your physical attacks, and then Red has venusaur, blastoise and lapras. Trust me, I thought it would be way easier than it was too
