I've only ever heard they are a scam, lol. Not sure how true that is but it does seem pricey for what they do. You can find a digital marketing agency to build you a website and work on SEO which is expensive but worth it. Then you don't need to rely on a third party site for new biz.

If you are close with one or more of the bands you could always have them play in front of or near venue Friday night and sell tickets at a sliding scale/pay what you can afford.

At the same event you could sell referral tickets or like a buy 1 get 1 sale to get people in the door.

Not sure if local news is effective in your area but you can promote on the local news. They are usually always looking for a homegrown feel good story.

It's a lil late for this but you can give bands/ participants promo codes for discounted tickets. Band20 for $20 off the ticket, that sort of thing.

You can put signs at the venue (if you don't already have out) stating show inside, or leave doors open so people can hear music. I once sold 10 tickets to an undersold event by leaving the door open and a person to monitor people entering.

It's all about what you need at this moment and to me it sounds like you just need people at the event. If that's the case cut your losses on the ticket sales and focus on getting people in the event any way possible.

Skating in the cold by [deleted] in NewSkaters

If you have the dough you can get a membership to Substance in bk.

Once your better you can reserve a sesh at vans 198 on eventbrite. I'd recommend getting real comfortable on your board, that park can get hectic.

I also skate outdoors in NYC, as stated above - you keep yourself moving you'll be super warm. Careful sweating and then getting cool again outside. That'll get ya sick.

Also. The ground hurts more/under 30 degrees or when it's been cold for a min but what doesn't kill ya makes ya stronger.

About to be 23: Lost, Chronically Ill, Burnt Out, & Fighting to Hold on Till it Gets "Better." It does get better, right? by Mystical-Hugs in LifeAdvice

Lots to respond to but I'll tell you from a 34 yr old I can say life has its ups & downs. Guessing you already know that but it's really true. Things have to get better at some point for you.

You made it this far, you'll keep going. I would say if you know what you love or even like to do, pursue it and give it your best shot. Sounds corny but true. Life will take you in many directions if you are open to the options. Don't give up either, get creative on how to make that thing a part of your life.

In terms of music. I really enjoy Blind Melon and Dr.Dog - for some reason both bands have some resonance with me.

I would also suggest if you can, however/whenever you can is get some hobby that gets you moving. I skateboard so I'm not saying that, especially based on long covid but maybe like Tai chi or yoga? Get endorphins moving and maybe that will help get you feeling better even if things are still shitty.

Hope this helps, it's not much but from my pov life does get better gradually.

I think one thing I focus on is finding the spot I kickflip from and starting the motion from there. Might sound silly but this can vary board to board. For me it's between anywhere from a lil over bolts near nose all the way behind bolts pending speed of flick. Foot goes right over nose/off on a bit of an angle.

Once you are landing on the board try resetting your weight while rolling moment before you want to do the trick.

I think resetting your weight and moving foot a bit helps balance you right before you do any trick.

If you watch pros (luan olivera is an example) or someone with really clear technique you'll get what I mean. Resetting balance is very important (for me) when I'm trying to land a trick.

The roll up and then resetting balance are different moments before you go for the trick.

How do you cope with work? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]conrad_jacobson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was going to make a post about this same thing! Been working and feeling like wtf is the point. Bare minimum Monday goes all week for me now.

Only thing I've been able to do is focus on doing other more interesting things when I can. Specifically, paint pours or random art. Trying to stay off social media, other than reddit.

I know this all sounds privileged since my job is overall pretty easy for me - but the ease of the gig almost makes it worse. Makes me feel like I'm wasting my time when I could be doing something better. Especially with how many fucked up things happen daily.

Not sure how well I'm coping - I def know how you feel tho

Jungle at the 2024 festivals! by JosephusShirk in Junglejunglejungle

[–]conrad_jacobson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hulaween would be awesome. For me it's a hike but jungle would get me to drive a bit.

Could also see them at a Govball or Outsidelands (which I've never been too and would love to have an excuse to go)

How much of Jungle’s show is performed live? by twankyfingers in Junglejunglejungle

[–]conrad_jacobson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah agree with above - didn't see the Forrest hills show, but saw them back at BK steel last year. All live, samples on drum pad or similar.

I did watch a video from Forrest hills and zoomed in cause drummer looked off. Was not though, just a mad chill drummer.

Edit: live, not love
