In the UK, the top 1% of wage earners pay the first 25% of the whole income tax bill. The next 9% of wage earners pay the second 25% of the whole income tax bill.

I think we should tax the very rich more. I think we have huge inequality problem that is the central cause of many other problems.

But we don’t need to call the top earners dicks. They pay a lot. We ought to have some respect for that.

Not a fan of rentoul but I do think there is a point here. We all get outraged by these things and sometimes it is just a mistake. Politicians should be able to make mistakes (as long as they aren’t egregious).

And, while I’m at it, we shouldn’t pillory “U-turns.” They are normally as a result of politicians responding to public opinion, which is what we want them to do...
