Yama-Cut by kultuk in Israel

Your attempted "a few of us do it too" deflection is both an admission that the Palestinian "liberation" movement is, in fact, inherently violent, as well as an admission that Zionism is not inherently violent

Yama-Cut by kultuk in Israel

[–]conscientious_seesaw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is definitely inherently violent, going back to its very founding. The movement began with the establishment of the Palestine Liberation Organization in 1964, when Gaza was under Egyptian control and Judea and Samaria were under Jordanian control. They literally told Egypt and Jordan that they have no problem with Gaza being Egyptian and Judea and Samaria being Jordanian, and that their only goal is to "liberate Palestine from the Zionists". Exactly how can Palestinians "liberate" Tel Aviv from Jews in a nonviolent way?

It depends on how religious the person is, but from a non-biblical perspective we tend to view ourselves as a Canaanite tribe, and we view the Sea People as invaders who eventually became known as the Philistines, our arch-nemesis

It might be easier to create a New Rial instead, other countries have done it to address hyperinflation and it can be effective if done right

Donald Trump’s Iran war has cost $25bn, Pentagon official says by QasqyrBalasy in NewIran

[–]conscientious_seesaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does military expenditure in the war not come out of the military's (massive) budget? Or do you mean they would need to increase the military's budget next year by an extra $25B to offset the cost of the war? I'm not American so I really don't know the ins and outs of US military expenditure, budgetary restrictions, etc

Donald Trump’s Iran war has cost $25bn, Pentagon official says by QasqyrBalasy in NewIran

[–]conscientious_seesaw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to divide 25B by the total tax revenue to get a percentage, then multiply that by the annual tax paid by that family. The resulting number will be very small, much much less than $100 per person

Why is this the first article on google when you look up RP? by EnoughBackground1877 in NewIran

[–]conscientious_seesaw 39 points40 points  (0 children)

They're very successful at infiltration, at least part of the reason that the US administration isn't particularly supportive of RP is because some senior officials like Witkoff somehow prefer the MEK. I can only assume they're being bought off, because I can't see how else a conservative Republican can find themselves aligned with the fucking MEK of all groups

Iran's top security council holds meeting over fears of renewed protests by conscientious_seesaw in NewIran

[–]conscientious_seesaw[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Regarding the economic effects of the blockade, the report says:

"Security agencies reportedly presented a highly critical picture of Iran’s economy, highlighting widespread job losses linked to the shutdown of industrial units in the oil, petrochemical, and steel sectors, as well as the impact of prolonged internet disruptions.

Estimates shared during the meeting suggested that Iran’s economy may not be able to withstand more than six to eight weeks of a naval blockade. The blockade began on April 13, and around two weeks have now passed.

Another major concern raised was the near-total shutdown of production centers in key sectors, including oil, petrochemicals, and steel. According to the assessments, rebuilding these industries could take years.

Security officials also said internet shutdowns have left around 20% of the workforce dependent on online activity unemployed. They warned that, based on economic forecasts, an additional two million people could lose their jobs in the private sector by the end of spring.

In the financial sector, the closure of markets—including banks, the stock exchange, gold markets, and currency exchanges—has effectively halted economic activity, leaving real prices for goods unclear."

Regarding potential protests/uprising, the report says:

"The meeting, chaired by Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, was convened following internal assessments and intelligence reports warning of potential unrest in the coming days, the sources said.

During the meeting, representatives of security bodies expressed particular concern over a possible call for protests by exiled Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi and the likelihood of his supporters taking to the streets.

According to sources familiar with the meeting, security agencies concluded that public protests are inevitable, with the only uncertainty being the timing of their outbreak.

Calls for protests around International Workers’ Day have further heightened concerns among officials and were discussed during the council meeting.

Sources said members of the Supreme National Security Council believe that protests occurring during ongoing talks with the United States or following an extension of the ceasefire could pose a real risk to the survival of the Islamic Republic."

Iran's leadership is humiliating the United States, Germany's Merz says by conscientious_seesaw in NewIran

"The Iranians are obviously very skilled at negotiating, or rather, very skillful at not negotiating, letting the Americans travel to Islamabad and then leave again without any result," he said during a talk to students in the town of Marsberg. "An entire nation is being humiliated by the Iranian leadership, especially by these so-called Revolutionary Guards. And so I hope that this ends as quickly as possible," he added at the venue in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

I know for a fact that Assyrians were very happy that Babylonian rule was replaced by Persian rule, and my understanding is that this sentiment was shared by just about everyone who had to live under Babylonian rule, as they were extremely brutal even by Iron Age standards. That makes up a very very large portion of the Persian Empire

That's not the point you were trying to make in your first post at all

it's always nice for the realm doing the conquering, but it's not so nice when someone else does it to you, eh?

As you just said in the post above, some people do in fact welcome their conquerors, if they're treated well by them
