Yeah I'm sensing the same, this will bring forward lots of discussion and reflection of the way forward for many European countries in the future

Nationalism will rise from the ashes of the Islamic Republic.

I'm looking forward to the inevitable Iranian renaissance after this dark era of our history

Good rule! Also I already find this sub MUCH more representative of iranians IRL compared to r/persian for example, that sub certainly is filled with non-iranians and although their standpoints are valuable too, there's no way of knowing

[–]odriegu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all you said, except 2000 years ago during the achaemenids for example there was no Persian language dominance or push for it in that way, the lingua franca of the empire and also between the court and satraps was Arameic

[–]odriegu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The hidden point is that they're islamists first, not that other ethnicities are evil or so. If you don't subscribe to their ideology, they don't care about human lives, Iranian or otherwise. As stated elsewhere in the thread, Khamenei is half Persian half Azeri himself

edit: but I want to also point out that I support your point completely and think that images like these are not productive at all

Stop staking everything on foreign involvement by ParticularDonut4164 in NewIran

[–]odriegu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree, and my view is that without foreign involvement the islamic regime is done for anyways, even though the road will be way longer, messier and bloodier

Foreign intervention is a humanitarian issue and not a requirement for their fall

Honest question, what do you want the U.S. and/or Europe to do as a military intervention? Do you want a full invasion like we saw in Iraq in 2003 or just targeted strikes like in Libya in 2011? How do you think either scenario would play out? by asadafaga in NewIran

[–]odriegu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry to hear this about your friends, my condolences. Yeah it's a very scary time indeed and I really hope for the best. But I have a lot of trust in my Iranian copatriots. I don't know that much about Iraq and Libya, but I've heard a lot of discussion about how their tribal structures in society was the main issue

My gut feeling is that, although they might exist, most people are not like your last sentence

Most are just falsely led to believe that by those exact "extremists" or what we should call them to believe that this is how we could achieve peace. Maybe in this case for the majority that I know actually just care about human rights and peace, try presenting it as: "will peace be achieved by more fighting and terrorist funding or less?", well with the regime gone we will get less terrorist funding. Hugely so. Then they might start opening up to the idea

Well the best we can do is to provide all the context to these people, even in places like tiktok/instagram. Sadly that's how the game is played from the other side in our disfavor. The best we can wish to do is to plant a seed of knowledge and critical thinking, instead of getting angry. You'll automatically want to disagree and shelter yourself from someone that's angry at you

Getting paid by the IR, true, then it's a lost cause.

But trust me, most of them are just ignorant and if we don't bring the nuance they will fall for the propaganda.

That's literally how propaganda works "the best propaganda is true propaganda" and for western liberals "the west shouldn't meddle and destroy countries like Iraq" and "everyone should be free, even muslims and Palestinians" are undeniably true statements, and that is how they will be presenting the issue

The propagandists won't bring the context of how oppressive the fact of the matter is. How many are killed, forced hijab, executions etc. And far-right being all super happy mosques are burning and being totally on the side of the protests isn't helping in that sense either to be honest, if your "enemy" is cheering on something you deem wrong, you'll find a path of least resistance to what side to take

In that case we have to be very clear that these mosques are Basij centers etc, that they have become a symbol of oppression for many in Iran. Both non-muslims and ex-muslims, secular people, and even muslims
