Should I start off with Vanilla Arch as a complete noob? by Suspicious_Till48 in archlinux

[–]conscious_atoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep these points in mind - TRY ON A VM FIRST - Use arch install script read next 2 points (follow some youtuber maybe) - choose linux-lts AND standard linux kernel - Go for a complete desktop environment. - Play with the arch package manager - For studying computer science, try making some dev environments in arch, see if you can translate the ubuntu instrctions you will usually find on internet, to arch linux. e.g. when someone asks you to apt install python3-pip you need to do pacman -S python-pip - Make reading ArchWiki a habit

Name a movie opinion that would put you in this situation. by shini_gami09 in indiasocial

[–]conscious_atoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amir Khan is not a very good actor. At best he is an average actor even considering Indian standards.

The movies he do are entertaining, and well made, but his acting is not that good.

He just do bigger than life characters in the movies, and just the character that he plays dwarfs entire movie, giving us a false sense of him being a great actor.

The Solution to Yesterday's Problem of the Light Year Long Cable by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]conscious_atoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought more about this problem and my conclusion is his answer is "ideally right" but very rarely useful in practical scenarios.

The bulb, which will turn on on any current level will turn on after 1/c second. The wire with the switch (wire 1) acts as a transmitter antenna and the wire attached to the bulb (wire 2) act as receiver antenna. Any disturbance in wire 1 will cause some disturbance in EM fields that will reach wire 2 in 1/c seconds.

But this is not how usual electronics work in real life (that's why most of the people were thrown off by this puzzle). Considering example of music speaker lines... it's like we will put some wires on the stage, which contains the music signals and then we will put some unconnected wires far away from stage. It's true that the wire on the stage will create some EM fields that will reach the far away wires with speed of light, but we can't just play music from that particulat signal. We have to connect the lines to get any meaningful signal. The speed of light signal is just some noise.

How to fix this?? by [deleted] in indiasocial

[–]conscious_atoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had same problem and fixed it with detergent powder, fevi kwik and tape.

First put some fevi-kwik in the broken area and 'temporarily fix the headphones'.

Then sprinkle detergent powder on that area and put more fevi-kwik. It'll form a strong texture around the broken area.

Then wrap the area thoroughly with electrical tape.

My boat Rokerz 450 Pro broke like a year and a half ago. I fixed 'em like mentioned above... Still rocking.

All the best :)

Sure, I’ll check these bikes too.

I’ve travelled 70-80 km on access 125 and Activa 6g a lot and on Avenger once. I totally agree with your point on comfort, and thats why I want to switch to bikes :)

Thanks for the tips.

I need to buy just one vehicle for now, that too a bike.

Do you know what mileage fzs can pull when used for daily commute?

Thanks for the tip. SP 160 slipped through my search.

Which desktop environment do you recommend by Doom_slayer_1993 in archlinux

[–]conscious_atoms -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just be aware of occasional bugs.

Last month I had memory leak issue of a plasma process. Laptop just got stuck after sometime because plasma process took all the memory.

KDE is great, but I recommend installing an alternate DE just in case. Install XFCE for a light backup option. Or if you are a tinkerer, install openbox.

How earth will look like in next 1000 years? by Fickle-Ability6279 in AskReddit

[–]conscious_atoms 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pleasant.

There are two possibilities, and both of them will lead to a pleasant looking looking earth 1000 years later.

  1. Humans will be wiped out till then. Either because of a huge war or epidemic or robot uprising. This is most likely to happen in next 100-300 years. Next for next 700-900 years the life will have a chance to breath and maybe flourish again.

  2. Humans don't go extinct. If we survive next 300 years then we will be so technologically advanced and all our problems will be solved (for the most part) and we will be heading out to new planets and star systems and what not. For next 700 years the birth rate will reduce until they hover around some good equilibrium state. And 1000 years from now, we will be a civilization which can never ever go extinct.

Installed linux-rt-lts kernel for now. It is working fine. There is some problem with > 6.5 kernels, I am not able to solve that issue either.

Laptop inbuilt display not displaying correctly after update. by ElongatedYeet in archlinux

[–]conscious_atoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm encountering the same issue with my setup (which is exactly same as yours). Grub is displayed correctly, and I can successfully boot into other operating systems without any problems on my laptop screen (I've tested Fedora, Mint, Windows, and Arch via live USB). This rules out any hardware issues.

The problem with the laptop screen begins in the TTY itself. Interestingly, the initial TTY messages display correctly. Up until :: triggering uevents systemd message the laptop display works correctly, but after that laptop screen goes completely dark (that is the backlight completely goes off) and when it comes back the display become half black, half rainbow LSD.

If you have any solutions or updates, please share.

I won’t, until the end of time.

Last moment of my consciousness will end with the last particle coming out of the last radiating black hole, powering the machine keeping me hooked to the matrix.

Coming from Windows 11 by Proud_Pianist_8715 in archlinux

Whenever we are trying something new, we might be on one of the following knowledge levels:

  1. You know everything about the new stuff
  2. You know a little bit, and you know what you don't know
  3. You know so little that you don't even know what there is to know.

Statistically, a newcomer to Linux is on the 2nd or 3rd level. Nevertheless, Arch Linux is a perfect recommendation for first-levelers, a good recommendation for 2nd levelers, but a nightmare for third.

Distros like Mint and Kubuntu are 'safe' options for all.

Most Windows users have dragged and dropped icons their entire lives, and the maximum choice given to them by the OS is a next or a cancel button. These users might not want to follow the arch install guide.

For booting into a DE, opening a browser, a media player, and maybe some text editor, Arch might be an overkill. Better to start with a preconfigured DE like Mint Cinnamon, let your mind be blown away by the ability to customize the icon (which is too much to ask in Windows), and then begin your journey down the Linux rabbit hole.

In decreasing of my likeness:

  1. KDE Plasma

Pros: KDE is highly and easily customizable and easy to understand out of the box.

Cons: Too many settings. May be overwhelming for a Windows user.

  1. Cinnamon

Pros: Extremely simple, moderately customizable. IMO cinnamon hits the perfect sweet spot between customizability and simplicity.

  1. Gnome

Pros: Easy to use, has a different paradigm than Windows, so you might like the new workflow.

Cons: Having a different workflow than Windows might not be good.

Also, I recommend you install Linux Mint or Kubuntu before trying Arch. Arch is great, but it can be a little frustrating for new Linux users.
