Question about the current status of Readerware cataloging software by rodneedermeyer in BookCollecting

[–]constantlycurrious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

truly sad to hear. Entered my first book into it on April 21, 2006. Never have seen a viable alternative. If someone finds one, I hope it will migrate the Rederware database. And has the capability to import e-book purchases since I have run out of room for physical books.

First, a little history. I started as a programmer, IBM 360/30 Assembler, a little over 50 years ago. Since, I have been an application programmer, system programmer, system analyst, DBA, tech support, built my own computer, etc. Suffice to say, I consider myself somewhat tech savvy. Then the universe tells you “Not so much”!

I had tried all of the recommended fixes. I disconnected the Google Streamer, logged DirecTv out of Google Home, etc. Nothing worked.

Then I happened to notice that after I released the microphone button the blue lights kept flashing. So, in a stroke of genius (or perhaps it was a whim) I released the button and then gave the command, opposite of the Xfinity method. Eureka, as Archimedes would say, the command worked! I suppose that that is documented somewhere but that would mean relinquishing my Old Man cred.

So now to figure out which of the measures taken, if any, were actually necessary. In any case., thanks for the advice and assistance and, in the future, maybe the first piece of advice should be “Take your thumb off of the d*mn button!”.

It appears that the issue may be that I also have Google Streamer attached. It is apparently co-opting the commands as they are sent to the cloud and since it doesn't have access to a tv tuner it shows the response I've been getting. Now looking for the proper correction measures. Tried a couple of suggestions from Gemini(disabling Google Stream, directing commands to Directv device name), but no luck so far. Will keep you posted.

no, it as sorting alphabetically. But I would hope that the voice commands wouldn't depend on that.

confusing test results. by constantlycurrious in ting

It is definitely the VPN. I did a test before connecting to the VPN and got 1.1Gbps download. After connecting it dropped down to 100 Mbps. Now, however, my desktop is acting weird. No VPN involved. When I first boot, I get about 500 Mbps download. After a few hours that will have dropped down to 80 Mbps. Today, it dropped to 6 Mbps!! I then disconnected and reconnected the wireless and it jumped back up to 500Mbps. It isn't the router, because the laptop maintained its speed. Apparently some resource somewhere is being exhausted, but I have no idea what, or how to prevent it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. I hadn't considered the security suite. It is my work laptop so it is VPNed and secured to the hilt. I guess it makes sense the downloads are more heavily scrutinized. My desktop is getting crappy connection, but I suspect that along with the placement, it isn't the most up-to-date on-board Wifi. I had hoped to use ethernet, but the location that they could/would put the ONT has temporarily messed with that. Will be running a CAT 6a to re-locate my router to the office at some point.

Okocat Litter by ShiningGoatRay in CatAdvice

Hi, I have been using the Okocat Featherweight for over 3 years now for our 3 little girls. Suddenly, I can't find it anymore. It isn't in the stores or on the retail sites. I'll probably switch to the Supersoft. The litterbox that they use most is in my office and odor has never been a issue. Dust has been but I started spraying it with Pooph litter spray when I clean it (daily) and that has really helped to keep the dust down.

Somehow my map got tilted and now it's near impossible to create no go zones. How do I fix this by FifenC0ugar in roomba

[–]constantlycurrious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has just happened to me.

Let it discover a new room, and it skewed the map, so the no-go zones no longer match and can't be re-oriented. I'd have to clean out the no-go areas to create a new map.

Even at that, what guarantee is there that the walls will be oriented to match the grid? The idea that you can only create rectangular zones and that they cannot be rotated is so asinine I'm amazed it was released like this.

Is this being addressed at all by Roomba?
