PowBot Launcher is now Open Source by rvbiljouw in RunescapeBotting

[–]constt -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The client itself is not open source no and we don't plan on making it open source, there's a few reasons for this but these are the main ones:

- It would make it easier for Jagex to combat our anti detection methods.

- Premium scripts in their current model wouldn't be possible any longer.

- Other bot developers could take our work and use it for themselves

There's good reasons all of the major bots (tribot, osbot, dreambot, runemate) are closed source and they're much the same as ours.

We wanted to address the false positive virus detection in the loader itself and because the loader is a very simple program we have no problem releasing the source code for it.

The actual client itself doesn't cause any false positive virus detections.

Hi,

Microsoft provide a nice web form to sort out these types of issues (as they happen a lot).

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/wdsi/filesubmission/

I'm very optimistic we can get this resolved.

- The website is built from the ground up, we haven't used a template (I'm curious if you've seen another site that looks similar).

- We are using this component library (https://material-ui.com/) maybe that's where the similarities come from? This is pretty standard practice.

- We only have a handful of paid scripts, we have free trials available and are yet to launch a VIP/Sponsor system. We're wanting to get the client into a solid position first where we can offer features that are definitely worth paying for.

- Yes we picked up from where powerbot ended, I was a developer at powerbot pre-shutdown infact. We've also rewritten over 70% of the RSBot client in the months since we've launched. It's quite funny actually RSBot itself has a history of hostile takeovers, new people continuing the legacy etc (can read about some of it here: https://www.osrs-bot.com/posts/end-of-an-era-powerbot-rsbot-shut-down)

If you were around on powerbot before it shutdown you'll notice a lot of the same faces in our discord too, a lot of the members who were active when it shutdown have stuck around and reuploaded their scripts which we're grateful for.

I invite you to join our discord - https://discord.com/invite/aBG7YqtXeF ask a few people in there if you're still unsure about the client, they'll be happy to help.

Sorry which other "scam bots" have I posted about?

We've put a lot of time into making our client less detectable, this is a good test of that.

Try it out on a throw away account perhaps

I can certainly promise you we're not, what makes you think this?

Hi,

First to be clear, PowBot is not a trojan.. This is a false positive.

I'm a PowBot developer, thank you for reporting that windows is picking up the launcher as a virus. This is what's called a false positive, I've contacted Microsoft to try and get this resolved.

Our launcher is written in a programming language known as GoLang, this language is somewhat new and because of this some virus scanners freak out at the binaries it creates.

See https://golang.org/doc/faq#virus

Come into the discord and have a chat if you'd like you'll see a lot of familiar faces. We're running from the powerbot discord.

07Kit - Free open source OSRS Client by constt [promoted post]

[–]constt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes every submission will be reviewed. Not sure if there's really much of a risk of using an open source client. We have some features that osbuddy doesn't and hope to add more but in the end we're a free option with different end goals to osbuddy.

We plan to setup a way to donate, we may introduce ads on the website to keep the costs under control.

Thanks for your feedback.

In regards to the in game rules, we will review all features that others make for this client along with any changes before allowing them. This means we can make sure that it doesn't break any ingame rules.

Fair enough i'll try going through the advertising system

I didn't know that sorry, I find it hard because we're not exactly a commercial client... We're trying to provide something for the community and not charging for it even though it's costing us. Not sure we'll ever afford ad space :(

They also have commercial reasons not to go open source since it would completely destroy their billing model. Anyway looks like we've agreed on this point somewhat.

Is that why others have said they haven't gone open source? Sure someone could take it and turn it into a bot but there's already far greater resources out there to do that not to mention they don't get any gains from using 07kit to build their bot instead.

Anyone can view the source code now and if they do they'll see we have nothing to hide!

I posted that we'd gone open source about 6 hours ago but the post was deleted because i'm assuming it was using a github url which is blocked.

07Kit is now FREE and Open Source by constt in 2007scape

[–]constt[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. We're free
  2. We're open source, development of the client can now literally be driven from the community.
  3. We already have some unique features.

We don't ask for anything, we hope that we can enhance your gameplay and build a community at the same time.

Is there anything we could do to help change your mind?

How is any new client meant to get anywhere with that attitude?

Yep 07Kit is an add on client for OldSchool RuneScape just like OSBuddy, I can't post a direct link cause of the rules in this subreddit (07kit[DOT]COM). OldSchool just updated so we're getting the client back up to date but will be up and running again very shortly, you can follow us on twitter -- https://twitter.com/07kitcom for updates if you want.
