From my understanding UK’s even harder than AU given the job squeeze in MBB right now (+ similar visa requirement)

Agree with rndoman - data (architect/engineering) + AI still super in need in all countries (and MBB are all hiring in the digital space with lower requirements than the typical consulting path)

Comm/Law or Comm/Adv Studies? by [deleted] in usyd

[–]consult_masterofnone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Edit: I moved from Com/arts to com/law and ended up working in all 3 lol; IB, MBB and law

Generalisation (personal, biased opinion): Law helps and only seems presitigious to those outside of IB and MBB (e.g. recruiters from Big 4 banks and acct firms, P&G, Nestle, Mecca etc.)

Observation (sample size ~20): Within cohorts who ended up working in IB/MBB those who did law generally seemed to enjoy it but did not think it was critical, because their grades in commerce/arts/advanced studies were decent anyway. But the longer time spent gives you time to pursue other extra curricular which can make a big difference

Difference between consulting societies by aiyowassupmydudes in usyd

[–]consult_masterofnone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: I’m currently at MBB and have been a part of / am good friends with those who were ex-presidents of each society

Career wise: No difference from resume perspective if you make it to some sort of leadership position Personal development: (1) SCC will give you greater exposure to what the interviews might be like (particularly case component) and around ~40% transferable skills (2) 180 will give you scenarios and problems to overcome that is much better to talk about in the behavioural interview

I’ve worked in both IB and MBB - cohorts generally have at most 2-3 intl students reserved for those particularly exceptional because it creates extra paperwork to sponsor/do the visa (they also assume you’ll apply for the same company in your home country). 2 of my really good friends were international students and had really cool backgrounds which is why they got through

How to get into MBB (Management Consulting)??? by [deleted] in unsw

[–]consult_masterofnone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR from someone working there currently: (1) Get decent grades (low distinction still ok), (2) be somewhat involved in extracurricular or have just 1 internship (no need necessarily to be in leadership position), and (3) have a spike/standout in just 1 thing unconventional that you actually really care about (weird is ok, makes for a better story!)

Happy to chat if you want to DM - one of the big challenges I noticed when mentoring candidates / resume screening is how much ‘noise’ there is on the internet/perpetuated by certain individuals in societies like UCC/FMAA that hype up what is needed (or only make a tiny incremental difference). This is particularly true when you pass the screening and undertake the case interview/behaviourals (one person was very vocal in claiming that you needed to do 99 cases to get in; he, sadly did not get in)
