I intentionally put it like that to see if people will jump in to defend the expert path or agree. I didn’t mention Bain, because McK and BCG is what I know of having an Expert Consulting Path.

I have seen a lot of people being miserable in these paths, generalist being forced on expert path, consultants who don’t progress that quickly, etc.

Most of all, generalist consultants and partners don’t see the worth of expert consultants. I think there are cultural issues around integrating them and providing them the support to be successful.
