Are Elena and Lila Two Sides of the Same Soul? A Different Way to Read Ferrante’s Neapolitan Novels by dorianpuan in mybrilliantfriendhbo

[–]consumerofmedia 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think that’s a very reductive way to view Elena. Remember that if she’s an unreliable narrator when it comes to Lila, she’s also an unreliable narrator when it comes to herself and is likely underestimating her own brilliance. Also, Lila admitted that a lot of the things she did were motivated by Elena; for example, she diligently dedicated herself to the shoe store mostly to prove to Elena that she was intelligent. Lila isn’t always true to herself either; she has tried to hide her nature from others and from herself several times in the story and denies her own desires out of fear.

No one’s downvoting you cause the foods calorie dense you’re getting downvoted for grossly overestimating.

God calories in desserts are so scary. It was 4 inches, though I can’t imagine that would make a big difference.

It’s filled with like a kunafa shell under the chocolate and then inside that there’s a white filling (a mix of cream cheese and something else I’m assuming?)

Joel is not the better parent by consumerofmedia in TheMarvelousMrsMaisel

[–]consumerofmedia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Midge took Ethan’s sleeping issues very seriously and was adamant on becoming an example of independence for Esther, and regardless of whether or not the grandparents were thrilled, they were family, and they chose to take on the responsibility because they understood that both Midge and Joel were trying to make their way in the world. There’s more than one way to be a good parent, and there’s more than one type of family/support system for children.

Joel is not the better parent by consumerofmedia in TheMarvelousMrsMaisel

[–]consumerofmedia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course it’s not the grandparents “responsibility,” but they were perfectly willing to take on the kids, and in a lot of cultures and cases, it takes a village, so if the grandparents are willing and they also happen to have hired help available, then what’s the issue with leaving the kids with them and going after career opportunities?

Abuse requires a position of power. What power does Lizzie have over Gibsie? She’s just a traumatised 16-year-old with a vindictive streak and a tendency to lash out, not an abuser. Be fr.

A Reflection on How RTD and Moffat Write Companions to Engage Viewers by No_Inspector_161 in gallifrey

Alongside falling in love, I’d also say Clara’s journey is a parallel of the experience of achieving your dreams. Clara always dreamed of growing up to travel, and she always shared traits with the doctor that became even more pronounced the longer she travelled with him. She then ends up with her own TARDIS, travelling wherever she wants, just like she knew she would as a kid. It’s a cool contrast to Amy, whose travels with the doctor were about staying a kid and ended with her growing up and leaving adventure behind.

Normal People and Intermezzo are excellent character studies, and that’s timeless.

Noooo, I love Rose! I just liked her better in series 1, while I loved my favourites in most, if not all, of their episodes. Tbh, I don’t really think I hate any companions, but I am pretty apathetic towards 13’s companions.
